Welcome to the final day of 16 days of Activism.
DAY 16 — Together, We Create Change
The 16 Days of Activism may be ending, but our commitment continues.
Every conversation matters.
Every challenge to harmful behaviour matters.
Every moment of kindness strengthens prevention.
Change doesn’t belong to one organisation — it belongs to all of us.

Welcome to day 15 of 16 days of Activism.
DAY 15 — Community Answers the Call
When someone reaches out, even subtly, our response matters.
Supportive responses sound like:
• “I believe you.”
• “Thank you for telling me.”
• “You don’t deserve this.”
• “How can I support you?”
Safe communities are built through understanding and empowered responses.

The walk against domestic violence was held with Zonta yesterday and judging by the numbers of attendees, can only be classed as a success. It was pleasing to see the number of State and Council notables there.

DAY 14 — Leaving Isn’t Simple
Many people ask, “Why don’t they just leave?”
But leaving is often the most dangerous moment — and the most complex.
People stay because of:
• Safety concerns
• Financial dependence
• Shame
• Fear of escalation
• Children
• Isolation
• Hope things will change
Understanding this helps us offer compassion instead of judgement.

DAY 13 — Children Notice Everything
Children don’t need to see violence to be impacted by it.
Raised voices, tension, fear, or disrespect between adults all shape how children learn about safety and relationships.
When we promote respectful behaviour at home, we protect the next generation and model what healthy relationships look like.

DAY 12 — Words Leave Marks Too
Abuse isn’t only physical.
Words can erode confidence, identity, and safety long before violence ever appears.
Emotional abuse can sound like:
• “You’re too sensitive.”
• “You’re imagining things.”
• “You’d be nothing without me.”
Awareness helps us recognise early harm and support those who may feel invisible.

DAY 11 — The Power of Checking In
Not every struggle is visible.
Sometimes the strongest people in our community are carrying the heaviest loads silently.
A simple check-in can interrupt isolation.
A kind conversation can open a door.
A moment of care can change a trajectory.
When we look out for one another, we prevent harm before it begins.

DAY 10 – A Community Effort
Domestic abuse is not a private issue – it is a community one.
Neighbours, colleagues, sporting clubs, schools, and families all play a part in prevention.
Together, we create safer environments for everyone.

DAY 9 – Financial Safety Matters
Financial control is one of the most common forms of abuse – and one of the least recognised.
Small signs include:
• Monitoring spending
• Restricting access to money
• Making someone justify every purchase
Awareness helps us support those who may be quietly struggling.

DAY 8 – When Control Hides in Plain Sight
Control doesn’t always look like raised voices.
Sometimes it looks like:
• Checking someone’s messages
• Dictating who they can see
• Comments that undermine confidence
• Subtle isolation
Recognising these patterns early can prevent harm.

DAY 7 – What Respect Sounds Like
Respect starts with how we share space.
Small everyday actions – speaking kindly, giving room, listening fully – help relationships stay safe and supportive.
