Not every wildlife rescue ends with a win, but this one did. A Tawny Frogmouth was the latest native bird caught in a soccer net — and thankfully, it was safely freed and back in the wild in no time. If you see an injured or trapped native animal, please call WIRES on 1300 094 737. Let’s help give wildlife a fair shot at getting back in the game.

Sometimes life isn't fair. Especially when you have to go through a painful surgery, but your sister steals the toy that was supposed to be to make you feel better!

Just a reminder that we’ll be closed for the long weekend. If you need to pick up food, medications, or anything else before the break, please drop in tomorrow. We’ll reopen on Tuesday and be back to business as usual.

Pet owners, take note: Dr Jeremy will be returning in June for a short visit and has a special interest in ophthalmology, with advanced qualifications in eye care just below specialist level. If your dog or cat has an ongoing eye issue, appointments are now available for Friday 19 July and Monday 22 July. Contact us to book.

Dr Ellené is back from her Mediterranean break, looking refreshed and with at least one excellent photo to show for it. While away, she captured this great shot of a cat perched above a Greek city, quietly minding everyone’s business like a true local. It’s a lovely travel moment — and a fitting reminder that no matter where you are, there’s usually a cat worth stopping for. We’re glad to have her back.

Did you know kittens can reach sexual maturity from just 16 weeks of age? That’s why we recommend desexing at around this time, ideally when they have their final kitten booster. It’s a simple step that helps prevent unwanted litters and supports responsible pet ownership. This is especially important for households with mixed-gender siblings. For more information, read our blog on cat desexing on our website.

We’re pleased to share an important improvement at the clinic. Our front doors have been difficult for some time, and because of both veterinary board requirements and heritage restrictions on the building, finding the right solution wasn’t simple. After a significant investment, we’ve now installed automatic door openers. This means we can preserve the character of our beautiful heritage building while making access easier for our clients. The only thing to note is that when exiting, you’ll still need to press the button.

Keeping your pet healthy starts with the right protection. While vaccines play an important role in preventing disease, not every pet needs the same vaccination plan. At Springwood Vets, we tailor our recommendations to suit your pet’s individual needs. If you’d like to better understand what your pet is being vaccinated for, we’ve recently published a helpful blog on our website. We’ve also made our vaccination pricing available online so families can plan ahead with confidence.
