*** New vehicle arrives at Heritage Datsun Racing Australia ***
1971 Datsun 240Z
Chassis: HS30-016XX
Original Colour: Metallic Brown
Current: Yellow
Engine: Originally 2.4-litre L24, upgraded to 3.0-litre L28
This Australian-delivered 1971 Datsun 240Z has enjoyed a remarkable competition career spanning more than 35 years in Victorian and national historic motorsport, primarily with the Marque Sports Car Association (MSCA) in Category 2 / Group 2B.
First logbooked for racing in February 1991 to Antoni Gecsek, the car began life as his road and weekend track car in the late 1980s. Gecsek competed in early club sprints and the inaugural Z Car Nationals before selling it in 1993 (to help fund a house deposit). It returned to his ownership in October 2019 after appearing at auction, reuniting him with a car that still evokes strong emotion.
Under Don McKay (1993–2000), the 240Z became a familiar and competitive sight on Australian circuits. McKay campaigned it extensively at Phillip Island, Winton, Sandown, Calder, Eastern Creek and elsewhere. In 1995 it ran the Targa Tasmania in white livery, often leading fellow 240Zs in the fiercely contested Marque Sports field of the 1990s, when Datsun Z-cars were a dominant force.
Darryl Duff (“the fastest butcher in Brighton” and former VHRR president) owned and raced the car from 2000 until his passing. It continued its active historic career through the 2000s and 2010s across hillclimbs (Rob Roy, Mt Leura, Mt Tarrengower), sprints and circuit events.
The car has proven reliable and durable throughout its long racing life.
Purchased by our chief engineer DJ from Antoni Gecsek, this much-loved 240Z will continue on racing in our stable in DJ’s capable hands!!
A genuine piece of Victorian motorsport history, we are proud to be the next custodians and continue this Datsun’s history into the future.

Hello 2026!!!
Hope you are all having a great year!!
Here is some incredible footage from the 1974 Bathurst 1000… one of the wettest races on record.
This race was the one where our Datsun 240K came 7th outright, its greatest claim to fame.
How many times can YOU see the 240K in the footage???

Big thankyou to Australian Motorsport Images for the following image!!!
Gosh I miss driving already!!! I’ve got the bug BAD now.
The car is still out of action while we source a new balancer and then pull the engine for a once over, just in case 😉
Can’t be damaging the original group c engine!!! 🥴
Historic Sandown was blighted with some atrocious weather this year, and as such, I could not get access to my beloved Dandenong Road corner.
This shot is one of my favourite shots of the year, not only because it is of a very significant car from Bathurst 1974, but also because I know how much work has gone into getting it back on track as it is owned and run by a very good friend of mine.
Well done on getting the car back and running so well!
Check out Heritage Datsun Racing Australia too, as there are some great and informative posts on there.
I’ve gotta share this!
Let’s all follow along with Aussies on Safari as they rally their Datsun 240Z across Africa!!!

Australia has lost one of its sporting legends today with the passing of Allan Moffat OBE.
It is with deep sadness that the Moffat family announces the passing of Allan Moffat OBE, who died peacefully at 11:05 this morning, surrounded by his loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Allan Moffat was not only one of Australia’s most successful and admired motor racing drivers, but a towering figure whose influence shaped the nation’s motorsport identity for more than five decades. Revered for his skill, tenacity, and exceptional professionalism, Moffat’s legacy is etched into Australian sporting history.
Born in Canada and proudly embraced by Australia, Moffat became a dominant force domestically and internationally. His career highlights include:
Four Bathurst 1000 victories (1970, 1971, 1973, 1977), including the iconic 1977 1–2 formation finish.
Four Australian Touring Car Championships (1973, 1976, 1977, 1983).
Success on the international stage, including competing in the Trans-Am Series, IMSA, and numerous global touring car events.
Long-standing partnerships with Ford and Mazda, contributing to landmark eras in Australian touring car competition.
His contribution to sport was formally recognised when he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Moffat is also honoured as an inductee of both the Supercars Hall of Fame and the Australian Sports Hall of Fame, cementing his place among the nation’s greatest athletes.
Beyond racing, Allan Moffat dedicated his later years to advocacy work. As a Patron of Dementia Australia, he lent his voice to raising awareness and supporting families affected by the disease. In his honour, the Allan Moffat Foundation continues this important work. His family and friends encourage fans to support the Foundation so that others living with Alzheimer’s can receive the care, support, resources, and hope they deserve.
Allan Moffat leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, not only as a champion driver, but as a respected mentor, advocate, and friend to many. He will be remembered for his unwavering passion, competitive spirit, and the profound impact he had on motorsport in Australia and around the world.
The Moffat family asks for privacy during this time as they grieve the loss of their beloved father, grandfather, and friend.
