From flashing effects to dynamic light displays, this project combines hands-on electrical skills with a touch of festive creativity.

📢 Community Notice – Nationwide AusAlert Test

On Monday 27 July 2026, Australia will conduct a nationwide test of the new AusAlert emergency warning system.

At approximately 2:00 pm (AEST), compatible mobile phones, some tablets and smartwatches across Australia will sound a loud emergency siren for around 10 seconds, even if they are set to silent or Do Not Disturb. A test message will also appear on devices confirming that no action is required.

As many students attending WesTEC bring a mobile phone or wear a smartwatch, some devices may sound briefly during class time. While this may cause a short interruption, students will not be required to switch off their devices before the test. WesTEC students will have their phones secured in the lockers provided unless they are on their lunch break and therefore shouldn't experience any disruptions.

Please note that students will not be in breach of the WesTEC Mobile Phone and Wearable Device Policy, and no consequences will be issued if a device sounds as part of the nationwide AusAlert test.

Over the school holidays, our WesTEC Certificate II Automotive students in the TEC Program had the fantastic opportunity to complete an industry placement at Daimler Trucks Brisbane.

Working alongside experienced industry professionals, students gained valuable hands-on experience, developed practical skills, and experienced what it's like to work in the automotive industry.
