ICYMI - our Deputy CEO Michael Hopkins spoke with Craig & Loretta on ABC Brisbane Breakfast on Thursday, talking rising construction costs in QLD, and what we're calling for to help turn things around. The Housing Minister Sam O'Connor MP was tuned in, and at our Industry Leader's Lunch hours later, announced he'll reveal the NCC review next month - a win for a clearer, more practical code as we deliver Queensland housing.

A major advocacy coup at our Brisbane Industry Leaders Lunch today.

Housing Minister Sam O'Connor MP announced the long-awaited NCC 2022 review will be released in July, alongside practical updates to cut cost and complexity.

Plus: a minimum 12-month transition for future NCC changes.

A big step toward clearer, more workable building rules.

On Friday we spent the afternoon at the Brisbane Inspired Minds event, bring together the women shaping the future of the construction industry and the advocates who support their journey. Our panelists were our own CEO, Sue-Ann Fresneda, Leigh Mackay, Executive Manager Member Engagement at BUSSQ, and Sue Nelson, Contract Administrator at Gardner Vaughan Group.

The discussion covered everything from workforce participation and leadership to confidence, mentorship and the future of our industry. An attendee, Monika Simpson from Cloudstaff, noted that "If people can see successful women across all areas of our industry, they're far more likely to consider construction as a career path themselves."

"Perhaps the most encouraging takeaway was the shared view that the future isn't about creating opportunities because someone is a woman. It's about creating an industry where the best people succeed, regardless of gender, and where seeing women in leadership, project delivery and technical roles is simply the norm," Monika said.
