Another fun few days chipping in on the tools with the boys from

I enjoy designing homes, but being able to help build them is an awesome part of the job.
Tom from Cohesive went the extra mile on this one and fixed the weatherboard cladding using stainless steel screws that have been counter sunk so they can be filled later on.
The home is located 500m from the ocean so this will give the owners peace of mind for many years to come.

From sketch to sky.
This week I got the chance to swap the computer for the tool belt and head over to the beautiful Kiama, helping the legends at Cohesive Constructions raise the roof trusses on a home I designed for an incredible family.
There’s something magic about seeing lines on a screen turn into a real roof over someone’s future memories.
Grateful for builders who let blokes like me get their hands dirty 🤝🪚

🌿 Living the design — not just drawing it.

Last year I completed my very own Passive House, fitted with a Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) system — and I’ve been blown away by the results.

✅ Allergy & Hay Fever Relief: The filtered fresh air has made a huge difference. My allergies have eased right up, and the air inside feels noticeably cleaner year-round.

🔥 Winter Comfort: Through winter, the house stayed warm and consistent without relying heavily on heating. No cold drafts, no uneven temps — just comfort.

☀️ Summer Ready: Now heading into the warmer months, it’s using far less energy to stay cool, all while maintaining that steady fresh air flow.

Range hood ducting insulated, installed and tested. Make up air system is performing perfectly.
Lessons learnt.
1. Low pitch roofs can be a pain, if you do choose to do one add some height to your wall or truss and create a decent service cavity.
2. Range hoot ducting needs to be insulated to eliminate the chance of condensation and energy loss.
3. Invest in good dampers. Naber thermobox is the way to go.

Mocked up the range hood make up air system ducting this week. Still need to install the dampers and the insulation, but it was an Interesting learning experience to say the least. This eco duct is low profile and makes the whole process pretty straightforward but the key take away from this is to better plan the duct runs to make it as simple as possible. Learning every day!
