Hampton Sailing Club

Warm weather and gentle breeze encouraged a strong fleet. A day of races within races as the sailors actively contested every position in the fleet. Great sailing and thanks to everyone who made it happen. We are always grateful for support of those who volunteer for the day.

And here they are!

Racing cancelled today. Disappointing but SO Melbourne. I did see a fleet of lasers out and there were a few capsizes. Safety first for Hampton Sailing Club.

Today was the first race of the Season and the optimism that accompanied the New Year was evident. 7 Sabres went out. And then came back after battling 21kt gusts and big seas. Safety ruled the day.

Sunday was a social sail with many away for Melb Cup long weekend. As it happened 4 boats took to the water in testing conditions before the wind really picked up and sailing became even more challenging.

This post is a thanks to those who volunteer, esp those who take out the safety boat! It wasn’t called into action, but it was a comfort to know we were being well looked after.

This is why being a member of a club is so valuable. If you are taking up sailing, consider joining a club.

Our rescue boats were supporting Sail Sandy so we took the opportunity to give our trailers a spruce up.

The sun sets on a very successful Wednesday twilight sail at our Club. Champagne conditions encouraged 6 boats out for the first twilight sail of the season.

What a difference a day makes (aka living in Melbourne). Yesterday, glorious. A great day for a sail. Our neighbour, Sandringham Yacht Club, held their season opening celebration in perfect conditions. Our start of the season was today….

Today… well the trend was not our friend.

Guess who has a brand new boat ramp! We have! Couldn’t wait to try it out. And it’s a big thumbs up.
