Welcome to your new home!

On Thursday, Paul and Stephen braved the conditions to collect AAT’s new J170D from the factory in Bundaberg. The smile on Paul’s face when he landed back in Redcliffe was priceless. It’s a beautiful aircraft, featuring a Dynon HDX display and a roomy interior, and it’s ready to help students achieve their goals.

Paul said “As a dual Part 141 / RAAus school, we transition students from RAAus into the CASA system, where they move on to larger legacy aircraft. One of the great things about the J170 is that its speeds are similar to the Cessna 172, making the transition between the two aircraft much smoother.”

The team at Jabiru have been fantastic to deal with. A big thank you to Sue and Jamie, who accommodated us at short notice so we could collect the aircraft. We’re truly grateful for the time and effort you put in to make sure we were fully prepared before departing.

Congratulations Steve on going solo. Steve has returned to aviation after a long break to continue his training. We love it when people come back after years away, and find the passion that once drove them to learn to fly. We can’t wait to see where your flying takes you!

Advanced Aviation Training strongly supports this petition.

The central question is simple:

If these checks are required by Government in the interests of public safety and national security, why is the cost being pushed onto individual workers and small businesses?

No one in aviation disputes the importance of security. Pilots, instructors, engineers, airport workers, contractors and aviation businesses all understand that safety and security are essential.

But if the requirement exists to protect the Australian public, then it should be treated as a public safety responsibility — not another cost-recovery burden placed on people simply trying to do their job.

This issue is bigger than aviation. Many Australians across many industries are required to obtain mandatory background, security, police, suitability or worker-screening checks before they can work. That includes people in aviation, maritime, transport, health, childcare, aged care, disability support and other essential sectors.

When these checks are mandatory, the cost must be fair, transparent and proportionate. It should not become another hidden tax on workers, sole traders, small businesses, regional operators and essential services.

For aviation, these rising costs flow directly into pilot training, airport access, regional operations, maintenance, freight and the broader aviation workforce. But the principle is much broader:

Public safety is a public responsibility.

AAT supports a fairer approach to mandatory security and background-check charges and encourages the aviation community and wider public to read the petition and consider adding their support.

Security matters. Safety matters. But fairness matters too.
If Government requires the check for public safety, Government should not simply pass the cost onto working Australians.

New addition to the fleet at AAT! ✈️🌙

We’re excited to introduce our new Night VFR capable A22 Foxbat — opening up even more opportunities for safe, comfortable flying after sunset. With the Foxbat’s great visibility, forgiving handling, and Garmin avionics, it’s an awesome addition to the fleet and a whole new way to enjoy the skies.

Can’t wait to get it flying with our students and pilots. Stay tuned for photos, night flights, and more updates soon! 🌅🛩️
