A year ago we launched whakakai poi to remember Nan & her connections to home, Makomako, Te Puke Okiokinga.

When I put together a gift for our elders much of the time I have no idea what I'll end up with, these gems came through meeting her for the first time, a time of acceptance. Meeting my Mum's sister was an honour.

Ruaumoko 10 of these sets off to Ngāti Tūwharetoa. I like these simple yet creative.

Well Mum. It's been a year and your mokos have all grown. We miss that cheesy bound too, or aish, with a step and a half. There are so many memories good and great. I don't think everyone realises just how short life is and learnt very little from your absence. We are forever grateful for you, your flaws and your teeth you could never find. Love U Nan Patsy...
