🍎 Red Apple Day for Bowel Cancer Awareness Month

Today our team is showing their support for Red Apple Day, a national initiative helping to raise awareness of bowel cancer and the importance of early detection.

Why a red apple? The red apple is the symbol of bowel cancer awareness in Australia, representing a simple but powerful reminder to prioritise bowel health and take part in screening when eligible.

Bowel cancer is one of Australia’s most common cancers, yet many people are unaware that it can develop without any symptoms in its early stages. That’s why screening is so important.

Some symptoms of bowel cancer can include:
🔴 Changes in bowel habits
🔴 Blood in your stool or bleeding from the re**um
🔴 Unexplained weight loss
🔴 Ongoing abdominal pain or bloating
🔴 Fatigue or unexplained anaemia

If you are aged 45 to 74, you may be eligible for a free bowel screening kit through the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

🍎 Visiting the clinic today? Swing by reception and grab a red apple while stocks last as we help spread awareness for bowel cancer.

A reminder left in our Zen garden by one of our beautiful little patients 🤍

“You are loved.”

Simple, but something many of us need to hear sometimes.

Wishing everyone a calm and restful weekend ahead. What does everyone have planned?

It’s World Thyroid Day today 🦋

Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped organ at the base of your neck, and it plays a huge role in regulating energy, metabolism, mood, hormones and sleep. When the thyroid isn’t functioning properly, symptoms can be vague and easily overlooked.

Persistent fatigue, brain fog, feeling cold, weight changes, dry skin/hair or irregular menstrual cycle can sometimes be linked to thyroid dysfunction.

Your thyroid is controlled by the pituitary gland in the brain, which releases thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). In response, the thyroid produces hormones (T3 and T4) that travel through the bloodstream and help regulate many of the body’s functions.

When this system isn’t working properly, the thyroid can become
•Underactive (hypothyroidism) - slowing body processes down
•Overactive (hyperthyroidism) - speeding them up

Your thyroid function can usually be assessed with a simple blood test arranged by your GP.

If this sounds familiar, it may be worth speaking with one of our GPs for a check-in and to explore things further 💙

Before there was a GP clinic here, these walls were already part of Prahran history 🎸

Next Practice Prahran is proudly located inside the iconic Old Station Hotel in Prahran, a heritage listed pub which operated for 108 years before closing its doors in 2013.
Originally established in the 1850s, the venue became a well known part of Melbourne’s live music scene, hosting legendary Australian artists and becoming woven into the culture and character of Prahran for generations.

In 2019, Next Practice Prahran opened within the beautifully restored space, reimagining the historic building as a place for healthcare, connection and community 🤍

Fun fact: our consult rooms are named after legendary artists who once performed within these very walls.
Including AC/DC, The Dingoes, Skyhooks and Cold Chisel.

We love that our clinic carries so much history and character while continuing to welcome people through its doors in a completely new way.

Have memories of the Old Station Hotel? We’d love to hear them below!

Proof that getting everyone organised for a team photo can take almost as much effort as booking the GP appointment you’ve been putting off 😅
Skin check, cervical screening, mental health care plan, health check… the hardest part is often just getting started. In the end it’s always worth it 💛
