🔥 Keep your home warm and safe this season!
Heating appliances and open fires are a major cause of house fires. Remember to keep flammable items away, supervise children, turn off heaters before sleeping, and ensure your smoke alarms are working.
Safety starts at home — together we can prevent fires. 🏠❤️
Never leave cooking unattended.
Most kitchen fires are caused by unattended cooking, and not being safe around heat sources in the kitchen
Don’t risk your family’s safety, keep looking, while cooking

🍳 Kitchen Fire Safety Tips
The kitchen is the room where most home fires start.
Staying alert is your best defence — keep looking while you’re cooking to prevent a small distraction from turning into a dangerous fire.
• Check that all heat sources are turned off
Before leaving home or going to sleep, make sure the stove, cooktop, oven and any other heat‑producing appliances are switched off.
• Never use water on an oil or grease fire
Water can cause burning oil to splatter and spread the fire. Use a fire blanket or appropriate extinguisher instead.
• Always supervise children in the kitchen
Keep kids at a safe distance from hot surfaces, appliances and cooking activities.
• Equip your kitchen with a fire extinguisher and fire blanket
Every kitchen should have both. Take the time to learn how to use them safely and confidently.

**Thank A First Responder Day 2026**
🧡💛💙🩵
Today, we proudly acknowledge and celebrate the dedicated first responders who serve our communities with courage, compassion, and unwavering commitment.
From volunteers and staff at CFA (Country Fire Authority), SES, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police, Fire Rescue Victoria, Triple Zero Victoria, and Life Saving Victoria, these remarkable individuals stand ready every day to protect lives, property, and the wellbeing of others.
Behind every uniform is a person who willingly answers the call when others need help most. They respond to emergencies, natural disasters, accidents, and critical incidents—often in challenging and unpredictable circumstances—putting service above self to keep our communities safe.
Their professionalism, resilience, and sacrifice deserve our appreciation not only during emergencies but every day of the year.
On this Thank A First Responder Day, take a moment to recognise and thank the first responders in your family, workplace, and local community. A simple gesture of gratitude can mean so much to those who dedicate themselves to helping others.
To all the volunteers and their families at Point Cook CFA —thank you for your service, your dedication, and the difference you make every day.

In December 1998, five CFA (Country Fire Authority) firefighters lost their lives fighting a bushfire in Linton, 150km west of Melbourne.
This tragic event rocked the firefighting community. To recognise the sacrifice of those firefighters, and the work of firefighters around the world, International Firefighters' Day was established in 1999.
The date, 4 May, was chosen to coincide with St Florian's Day - the patron saint of firefighters.
Day and night - in the heat, cold or rain - firefighters answer the call to assist our communities every day of the year.
Today, we're thinking about all the firefighters on what they give up to protect lives and property.
