This term, Prep students have been learning how gardens provide food, shelter and enjoyment for people and living things. Students visited the sensory garden where they participated in watering plants, digging in the soil and investigating the compost to learn how gardens are cared for. Using their new knowledge, they worked collaboratively to design and create their own gardens using a range of materials. It was wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and growing appreciation for the natural environment.

As part of Police Week, Year 9C and D students had an exciting opportunity to learn more about careers in policing. Students were introduced to some of the fitness testing requirements needed to join the police force and had the chance to challenge themselves with a range of physical activities.
A highlight of the day was meeting local Highway Patrol officers and getting up close to a police motorbike and highway patrol vehicle. Students enjoyed learning about the equipment used by police and asking questions about life in the force.
It was a valuable and engaging experience that provided students with a greater understanding of the important role police officers play in keeping our community safe.

At Featherbrook, in our Interdisciplinary studies, 2E is learning about push and pull forces. We are learning that push and pull are forces that can change an object’s movement and can be represented in terms of strength and direction. In our lessons we are exploring how traditional Asian toys and games such as a Kendama, Daruma Otoshi and Hanetsuki are played using a push or a pull. Students have explored the movement of the toys and the forces needed to play with them.

Year 9 students have blitzed their exams this week. Finishing with science today, we congratulate you all on a job well done!
Yesterday at the P - 2 assembly, we were treated to a range of wonderful presentations and performances. Among them was the recital of a poem created by Nidhish, one of our Year 1 students. The message of the poem to look after our precious planet, was so inspiring that sharing it more broadly may inspire others to also look after our earth.....enjoy!
Our Earth
Our earth is my home,
I promise to keep it healthy and beautiful.
I will love the land, the air, the water and all living creatures.
I will be a defender of my planet.
United with my friends, I will save the earth.
United with my friends, I promise to keep it clean.
United with my friends, I will be a defender,
I will save the earth.

On Tuesday, the year 9 girls attended the annual “Girl’s in Trades” expo held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.
Funded by the Victorian Government, the purpose of the expo was to give girls the opportunity to find out about all the different opportunities available to them in non-traditional industries.
The girls had a great day; they could fly a plane via Virtual Reality, build a stool in the carpentry section, re-plant seedlings in the gardening section, do metalwork, electrical wiring, plumbing, and a host of tech-based careers including animation and game development.
