Introducing the newest member of the Deep Blue team - Matt. Matt is the older (and less fortunate looking π) brother and son of the two Johns. He recently concluded a 20+ year career in IT and Logistics to get outside and enjoy the beautiful GC sun. He has completed 6 months of training and is ready to keep your pool in tip top shape this summer. He is based out of Ormeau and will be looking after customers from south Logan to mid Gold Coast. If you see him in your backyard be sure to say gidday!

π§ͺπ¦ Isocyanuric Acid - The Chemical With 100 Names π§ͺπ¦
Isocyanuric Acid (commonly referred to as Cyanuric Acid or CNA) is a vital part of maintaining a healthy pool, particularly during the summer months. As its many pseudonym names suggest it has a primary role in protecting the chlorine from ultraviolet light (sunlight).
The chlorine produced by your salt water chlorinator is consumed by many things including algae, organic matter, bacteria, micro-organisms, etc. One of the largest chlorine consumers is UV light. A pool without adequate concentrations of isocyanuric acid will quickly consume it's available chlorine and can often result in algael and bacterial growth. The isocyanuric acid stabilises the chlorine in the water by reducing the UV consumption, hence it is most commonly known as 'stabiliser'.
Stabiliser itself is not consumed and can be diluted out. If you've had a lot of rain or have filled up your pool recently it may be time to do a water analysis.
π©π¦ Poo In The Pool Procedure π©π¦
It is often an unfortunate part of mixing kids and pools but when it happens what do you do?
Firstly, don't panic! Evacuate the pool and scoop any coarse matter out. The residual/free chlorine already in the pool will quickly sanitise the water.
Secondly, turn the pool filtration system on to manual and run for 24 hours. After 24 hours clean out the filters (backwash sand filters or hose out cartridge filters).
Lastly, before swimning check the water chemistry. Make sure you have a free chlorine reading of over 2ppm before resuming pool activities.
Non chlorinated shock treatments (potassium monopersulphate) are also a great way to ensure safe and clean water. Having a sachet of shock on standby is always recommended if an accident is a possibility.
From all of us at Deep Blue Pool Maintenance we would like to wish our amazing customers a Merry Christmas. Thank you all for your support throughout 2021 and we look forward to seeing you again soon!
