Milestones Early Learning Quinns Rocks

Did you know today was World Tiger Day? Our Kindy Children learnt so many things about them today.

Today we have been exploring International Tiger Day through research and art work.

This morning we gathered as a group and spoke about how it was Tiger Day, and we were going to do some research so we could learn more about the big striped cats. Alicia invited the children to pose questions that they would like to discover the answers to - see them below in our floor book. We then watched a mini documentary, pausing every few moments to review the information we heard, and jotting it down in our research book. We also found a map showing us where tigers came from - wow, we sure learnt a lot!

To extend on our Tiger exploration, after lunch Bella set up this tiger art provocation for the children to explore, gluing in stripes (which we learnt are to help tigers camouflage).

Our tiger research supported the children to be curious, and further develop their researching skills, and asking them to pose the questions to what they want to learn about empowers them to be the facilitators of this rich knowledge building. Researching with the children, rather than just giving them the answers, role models to them how to be resourceful, and how to discover new knowledge through this inquisitive exploration, setting them up for success in their learning journey. The art experience provided a sense of fun, while also further building upon fine motor skill development and concentration skills as the children focused on the placement of their stripes.
