Perth’s best Beef Wellington? Winter dining doesn’t get much better than this! 🍷🥩
Celebrating its first birthday earlier this year, Avalon Perth located in the bottom of The Grove Residences, Claremont has quickly become one of Perth’s standout date night and special occasion destinations - and after recently dining there, we can absolutely see why.
From the moment you walk in, everything feels thoughtfully considered. Soft linen embroidered napkins, elegant glassware, beautiful table settings and softly lit interiors create a space that feels refined without ever feeling stuffy. It’s the kind of restaurant where you’ll want to dress up a little, settle in and savour the evening.
Drawing inspiration from Greek and Italian traditions while showcasing exceptional WA produce, Avalon’s menu is packed with dishes that let quality ingredients shine.
We started with their house-baked Lupin & Linseed Sourdough (dangerously moreish), Scallops with champagne sabayon and salmon caviar, and Zucchini Flowers filled with mushroom duxelles. Delicious.
But the star of the night was undoubtedly the Beef Wellington. Wrapped in golden flaky pastry and served with glazed asparagus and a beautiful Verdehlo sauce, it delivered everything you want from this retro classic - rich, comforting and indulgent. It may just be Perth’s best!
The Willow Bend Lamb Rack was equally impressive, while sides of roasted potatoes and broccolini disappeared very quickly from our table.
For dessert, the Chocolate Tonka Lava Cake with its molten coconut centre had us scraping every last bite from the plate, while the Vanilla Passion Escape was a beautifully balanced finish.
We visited on a Wednesday for Avalon’s Steak & Cellar night, where premium cuts are paired with a glass of the delicious 96-point Lenton Brae Wilyabrup 2023. Other weekly highlights include BYO Tuesdays and live music every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening.
Yes, Avalon sits on the pricier end of Perth dining, but for the quality of food, service, wine list, atmosphere and attention to detail, we honestly felt it represented excellent value.

This peaceful loop trail has to be Perth’s most underrated lakeside walk! 🌿✨
Just 25 minutes north of the Perth CBD, the Lake Goollelal Trail feels a world away from the city. Hidden within Yellagonga Regional Park, this peaceful 4.5km fully paved loop winds through wetlands, paperbark forests, native banksia woodlands and some of the most beautiful lakeside scenery you'll find in the northern suburbs.
One of the biggest highlights is the stunning new 380m boardwalk, which stretches out over the lake and offers incredible views across the water from two viewing platforms. It's fully accessible for wheelchairs and prams, making it easy for everyone to enjoy this spectacular section of the trail.
Take your time as you walk - Lake Goollelal is teeming with birdlife and wildlife. Keep an eye out for swans, colourful wrens, freshwater turtles and, if you're lucky, even a rakali (native water rat). The name "Goollelal" means "listen" in Noongar language, and it's the perfect reminder to slow down and appreciate the sounds of nature around you.
The boardwalk is just one part of the exciting Yellagonga Regional Park Improvement Project currently underway, helping transform this already beautiful reserve into one of Perth's premier nature destinations. By late 2026, visitors can also look forward to a new all-abilities nature playground, upgraded pathways and a boutique wine bar/café within the heritage-listed Luisini Winery building.
For now, the best place to start the walk is the Lake Goollelal car park, as the Luisini Winery car park is currently closed during redevelopment works.
Everything you need to know:
🅿️ Lake Goollelal carpark off Woodlake Retreat Rd, Kingsley
🥾 4.5km loop trail - fully paved & accessible
🛝 Small playground on the western side of the lake
🚴🏼♂️ Shared trail for pedestrians & cyclists
🐕 Dogs permitted on leash
💲 Free entry to Yellagonga Regional Park
This leafy oasis in the heart of suburbia is perfect for your next walk, run or family outing - and one of those rare Perth spots that still feels like a hidden gem!

Bottomless brunch… but make it Indian 🇮🇳🍹✨
If you're looking for a fun long lunch in Perth that’s a little different, Sauma has a Chaats & Cheers experience that’s well worth adding to your list.
Located on William Street in Northbridge, Sauma has been one of Perth’s favourite Indian restaurants for over a decade, and recently they introduced a bottomless lunch every Friday, Saturday and Sunday that’s packed with vibrant Indian street food and 90 minutes of free-flowing drinks.
We loved that it felt a little different from your typical Perth bottomless brunch. Instead of the usual breakfast dishes, you’ll find authentic Indian-inspired flavours and a lively atmosphere that encourages you to settle in and enjoy the afternoon.
The experience kicks off with their famous Pani Puri Shots before a round of share plates landing at the table. Expect tandoori fish tacos, crispy lamb ribs, gunpowder chips, green chicken tikka and a colourful Bombay beet salad, all packed with flavour and designed to share. The food gives you plenty to snack on while you work your way through the drinks menu - and with cocktails usually around $20 each, the maths starts looking pretty good after drink number two. 😉🍹
The drinks package includes bottomless cocktails and spritz (you must try the cheeky Arranged Marriage!!), plus house wine, beer and prosecco. Non-alcoholic options are also available for those wanting all the fun without the alcohol.
Inside, the space is full of character with rustic timber finishes, distressed wood details, cute lights and communal tables that make it ideal for group catch-ups.
Whether you're celebrating a birthday, planning a girls' day out, organising a special occasion or just looking for an excuse to gather your friends, this is a fun option for something a little more unique.
📍 200 William St, Northbridge
⏰ Bookings from 12pm (90-minute sittings)
💰 $75pp Alcoholic | $65pp Non-Alcoholic

Perth’s autumn colours won’t be around for much longer…
For a few short weeks each year, pockets of Perth transform into a sea of gold, orange and crimson leaves. But with autumn drawing to a close, now is your last chance to experience some of the city's most beautiful seasonal colour before winter fully arrives. 🍂
Save this list for a stroll this weekend and enjoy these stunning spots while they’re still at their best.
🍁 Subiaco Common: One of Perth’s most photographed autumn locations. The leafy avenue along Mere View Way turns a brilliant golden colour and creates the perfect tunnel of leaves for photos.
🍂 Hyde Park, North Perth: A Perth classic. Wander beneath towering trees, enjoy the colourful foliage reflected in the lakes and grab a coffee from nearby Chu Bakery while you're there.
🍁 Claisebrook, East Perth: The pathways around Tea Tree Lagoon become lined with golden London plane trees, creating one of the prettiest urban autumn walks in Perth.
🍂 Borrello Park, Roleystone: A hidden Perth Hills gem where golden poplars, colourful liquidambars and a picturesque brook create storybook autumn scenery.
🍁 Raeburn Orchards, Roleystone: One of Perth’s most famous autumn destinations. The persimmon orchards glow in shades of orange, red and gold, with orchard walks available for $5 per adult.
🍂 Fred Jacoby Park, Mundaring: A favourite in the Perth Hills, with wide open lawns, towering deciduous trees and some of the most vibrant autumn colours you'll find close to the city.
Autumn colours in Perth are fleeting and many of these trees will lose their leaves over the coming days, so don't leave it too long.
Which spot is your favourite? 👇🍂

These burgers stack up with some of the best we’ve had around Perth! 🍔🔥
TGI Fridays Australia just dropped a new smash burger range, so we headed to the Westfield Carousel rooftop restaurant to try the new lineup, and safe to say… crispy edges, melty cheese and loaded toppings - they absolutely understood the assignment 👀
The Signature Whiskey Glaze Smash Burger was delish thanks to that sweet smoky glaze, while The Big Boy 2.0 was an absolute beast - stacked with BBQ brisket, bacon jam, creamy slaw, Cajun onion rings and all the extras. Messy in the best possible way 😮💨🍔
And it wasn’t just the burgers either… we also demolished the Mozz Sticks, Corn Ribs drenched in garlic butter and Cajun spice, FRIDAYS™ Signature Chicken Strips and the surprisingly fresh Chicken Bowl-Rito (because balance 🤣). Washed it all down with a Peach Long Island Iced Tea and a cold pint of beer before finishing with the ridiculous Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Brownie Obsession! 🍫
The best part? Every Monday, MyFridays Members can score the Signature Whiskey Glaze Smash Burger + fries for just $16.90. Honestly, that kind of value is hard to beat in Perth right now 👏
Even better - the Carousel venue also runs General Knowledge Trivia every Monday night, so you can grab dinner, drinks and stay for the quiz after 🍻🧠
To celebrate National Burger Day on May 28, TGI Fridays will also be giving away limited free burgers at venues nationwide - so mark it in your calendar!! 🤩
📍 Westfield Carousel Rooftop Dining Precinct, Cannington
🕚 Sun-Wed: 11am-8:30pm (Thur to 9pm) | Fri & Sat: 11am-9.30pm

Perth’s best waterfront escape? We think this might be it 👀✨
If you’ve been craving a mini city staycation - or you’re visiting Perth from regional WA for a special event or weekend away - the new Waterfront Escape package at DoubleTree by Hilton Perth Waterfront is seriously hard to beat.
Set right on the Swan River beside Elizabeth Quay, this package includes accommodation, buffet breakfast, access to all hotel facilities, a bottle of sparkling wine on arrival and an adult double pass to explore one of Perth’s most prized attractions - The Bell Tower.
And honestly… the value is incredible. Packages start from just $315pn, or from $384pn for a River View Room like ours - waking up to those river views was something special 😍
From the moment you arrive (warm DoubleTree cookie included 🍪), everything about this hotel feels relaxed, modern and perfectly positioned to enjoy Perth like a tourist. We loved wandering the riverside paths and exploring the city on foot before heading up to 18 Knots rooftop bar with stunning 360-degree views over the Swan River and city skyline.
And what better way to start the day than a buffet breakfast at Reel Kitchen, with front-row seats to the Swan River and a generous spread of hot and cold breakfast favourites - plus a fresh juice station. (And if you’re staying longer, the award-winning restaurant is also open for dinner, showcasing local produce and WA wines.)
With panoramic water views from almost every corner of the hotel, a rooftop infinity pool, 24-hour fitness centre, super comfortable rooms and a peaceful riverside location, this felt like the perfect easy getaway without ever leaving Perth.
The Bell Tower experience is also such a fun addition to the package - from learning the fascinating history behind the centuries-old bells that fill Perth city with their chimes, to watching live bell-ringing demonstrations (Thurs + Sun) and taking in panoramic city views from the observation deck.
Sometimes the best escape is right here in Perth ✨

Perth’s northern suburbs just scored Australia’s first Dave & Buster’s. Here’s what you can expect:
Say hello to Dave & Buster's Australia - the iconic USA eat, drink & play destination. Now officially open in Clarkson, this massive venue is part arcade, part sports bar, part casual dining…. and full on entertainment. It’s loud, flashy, energetic and ridiculously fun! 👀🎮🍔
We dropped in for lunch on opening day and quickly understood why this place has such a cult following 😍
The menu leans into bold American-style food, but with quality Aussie ingredients and generous portions perfect for sharing between games. Think burgers, loaded pizzas, wings, nachos plus a few Aussie pub classics thrown into the mix - like chicken parmi or fish & chips, alongside healthier salads and a dedicated kids menu.
Here’s what we ordered:
🍔 Smashed Burger Sliders
🍕 Loaded Pepperoni Pizza
🍗 Southern Fried Chicken Burger
🔥 Classic Buffalo Boneless Wings with Ranch
🌶 Sriracha Honey Cauliflower Wings with Aioli
🥗 Southwest Salmon Bowl
All washed down with an icy pint of beer! 🍺👌 Drinks flow from a huge 10-metre terrazzo bar pouring 13 local and heaps of imported beers, plus cocktails, mocktails and plenty more.
And when it comes to games - this place is HUGE!
With more than 75 arcade and interactive games across the massive gaming floor, we had an absolute ball battling it out on NBA Hoops, Super Bike Racing, Space Invaders, Step Mania Dance, Air Hockey and way too many others to count. 😂🏀🏍 Just grab a Play Card and you’re ready to tap, play and compete.
Sports fans are covered too, with a gigantic 40-foot WOW Wall screen plus 30+ ultra-HD TVs showing live sport throughout the venue 👏
Whether it’s a family outing, kids party, date night or catch-up with mates, Dave & Buster’s already feels right at home in WA.

One of Australia’s top towns to visit in 2026 is hiding just 90 minutes from Perth 👀✨
Recently named one of Australian Traveller’s Top 100 Towns to Visit in 2026, the historic town of York is packed with heritage charm, scenic countryside, cosy cafés and fascinating history - making it the perfect country day trip or weekend escape from Perth 🤎
As Western Australia’s oldest inland town, York is full of character, with beautifully preserved colonial buildings, rolling hills and welcoming country hospitality.
Here are a few must-do experiences while you’re there:
🏛️ York Town Hall: Built in 1911, this beautiful heritage building is home to the York Visitor Centre. Stop in to grab maps, find out what’s happening around town or chat with the friendly local team for recommendations before exploring.
⛰️ Mount Brown Lookout (Wongberl): One of York’s most breathtaking spots, offering sweeping 360-degree views over the town, farmland and surrounding hills. You can drive to the top or tackle the 7.5km return hike. During autumn and winter, the valley is often covered in magical morning mist.
🚗 York Motor Museum: Home to one of Australia’s finest collections of vintage, veteran and classic cars, motorcycles and memorabilia, including vehicles that cruised the roads more than 100 years ago.
⛓️ Residency Museum: Step back in time and discover York’s rich history inside the last remaining section of York’s Convict Depot, with fascinating exhibitions and historical displays (open Sat only)
🍞 Old Flour Mill: A beautifully restored 1892 landmark that was once the largest flour mill in Western Australia. Today it’s a vibrant stop for coffee, scones and local shopping at the Flour Mill Emporium - full of antiques, crafts and collectables.
And, while you’re there, wander the heritage-lined streets, browse antique stores and local boutiques, grab coffee or lunch at one of the historic pubs or cafés, and enjoy a stroll along the Avon River and Swinging Bridge 🍂

This NY style pizzeria has just opened in Perth!! 🍕
A brand new slice shop has landed on Albany Highway in Vic Park and if you’re into New York-style pizza with proper Italian soul… you need this on your radar.
Lievito officially opened this week, bringing to Perth a delicious cross between New York and Neapolitan pizza - think those huge foldable slices we all crave, but made with incredible Italian dough, premium ingredients and the kind of quality you can absolutely taste.
Behind the oven is Eddy, an experienced Italian pizza chef formerly from Pizzeria Da Leo. And his handiwork shows from the very first bite. The dough is light, chewy and perfectly crisp underneath, topped with gold-standard San Marzano tomatoes grown in the volcanic soil near Mount Vesuvius, creamy La Delizia Latticini cheese and a small but seriously well-curated menu of crowd favourites.
You can grab pizza by the slice (they’re big 👀) or go all in on a full 20-inch pie if you’re feeding the crew… or just feeling personally ambitious 😂
The Hot Honey absolutely stole the show for us - spicy salami, jalapeño, stracciatella and hot honey creating the perfect balance of spicy, creamy and sweet. We also loved the Marghe (wonderfully simple but tasty), while the Funghi delivered everything you could want from a gourmet slice with fresh ricotta and truffle cream.
The shop itself has that cute little hole-in-the-wall vibe with a few small tables out front, making it perfect for a quick lunch, casual dinner or late pizza craving. Slices are topped and ready to go just minutes, so it’s ideal when you want something fast but genuinely delicious.
And do NOT skip the dips. The garlic aioli, three cheese and spicy nduja are elite crust-dunking material 🤤 And for the perfect finish … tiramisu.
