One of the biggest misconceptions in riding is that everyone else has it figured out.
They don’t.
Almost every lesson I teach starts with a rider telling me about something they’re struggling with.
Confidence.
Control.
Position.
Jumping.
A green horse.
A horse that’s a little too clever.
A goal they can’t quite seem to reach.
Sometimes all it takes is a fresh set of eyes and a clear plan.
If you’ve been battling the same issue for weeks, months or even years, send me a message and let’s work through it together 🐴

One of the biggest things I notice during bit fits is how many horses are actually compensating.
A horse might present as:
• heavy in the contact
• inconsistent into the bridle
• behind the vertical
• head tossing
• tilting
• difficult to steer
• “strong” under saddle
…but a lot of the time they’re simply trying to find somewhere comfortable to carry the bit.
Tiny changes in:
• tongue room
• mouthpiece collapse
• rein signal timing
• cheek stability
• bit length
• mouthpiece angle
can completely change how the horse uses their body.
Sometimes the contact suddenly becomes even both reins.
Sometimes the horse simply looks mentally quieter.
The goal of bit fitting isn’t forcing a headset or creating fake softness.
It’s creating clarity, stability and comfort so the horse can actually work through their body properly 🐴

Bit Savvy has temporarily gone international 🌍✈️
Currently somewhere between eating pasta, getting lost in train stations and pretending I understand European public transport… BUT never fear, I will be back soon and ready to absolutely crack on with lessons, bit fits, shows, problem horses and all the usual chaos again 😂
Please remember me while I’m away. I expect at least 3 horses to pretend they miss me.
Still taking waitlist enquiries while I’m gone, so if you want to jump on the books for when I’m back, send through your name, location and what you’re after 🫶
I’ll return slightly jet lagged, emotionally attached to Italy, and fully prepared to talk about horse bits for 14 hours straight again 🐴

One thing I’ll always prioritise in coaching is teaching riders the why, not just the how ✨
Anyone can be told “shorten your reins” or “kick”, but understanding WHY your horse is reacting a certain way is what actually creates long term progress.
In lessons we work on things like:
• Rider position and balance
• Adjustability and rideability
• Confidence building
• Polework and grids
• Flatwork foundations for jumping
• Straightness and steering
• Creating softer, happier horses
• Building a better partnership overall 🤍
Every horse and rider combination is different and I absolutely love helping people figure out what works best for their horse.
Lesson availability is posted weekly in the Lessons with Milan Facebook group on a first come first serve basis 🐴✨

Good coaching should make both the rider AND the horse feel more confident 🐴
I absolutely love helping riders understand their horses better, whether that’s improving the canter, building confidence over poles, fixing steering issues, preparing for competition or simply creating a softer and happier partnership.
There is never a one size fits all approach. Every horse learns differently, every rider has different goals and every lesson is adapted to suit that combination on the day ✨
I coach a huge range of riders and horses from pony clubbers and nervous riders right through to competitive showjumpers and young horses coming into work. The goal is always correct basics, happy horses and riders who leave feeling motivated 🤍
Lessons will resume when I’m home from overseas! To join in, make sure you join “Lessons with Milan” on Facebook so you can see weekly booking posts and availability 🫶

One of my favourite parts of coaching is watching horses become genuinely happier in their work 🐴✨
So many “naughty” behaviours actually come from confusion, discomfort, lack of confidence or simply not understanding what’s being asked. Once you slow things down, explain things properly and work WITH the horse instead of against them, everything starts to change.
Lessons can include flatwork, poles, jumping, groundwork, confidence building, young horse education, competition prep and even bit fitting support where needed. I want riders leaving lessons feeling educated, supported and excited to keep improving 🤍
I’ll be away travelling for the next month but lessons will return as normal once I’m home! To join lessons, make sure you join “Lessons with Milan” on Facebook for weekly availability and booking posts 🫶

One thing I’ll always stand by with bit fitting is that softer is not always kinder, and stronger is not always harsher.
The right bit is the one that allows the horse to understand the aids clearly, stay relaxed in the contact and work comfortably in their own mouth. Sometimes that’s a super simple snaffle, sometimes it’s something with more stability, tongue relief or even leverage for specific situations.
Every horse’s mouth is built differently and every horse responds differently. That’s why bit fitting should never be about trends or opinions, it should be about the individual horse in front of you 🐴
The goal is always the same:
A happier horse, clearer communication and a safer, softer ride for both horse and rider ✨
