Hey Perth! Let’s talk about money. (The real kind.)
Getting a mining or energy tech startup off the ground is one thing. Funding it long-term is another beast entirely. Between R&D tax incentives, angel rounds and growth capital, the "right" path isn’t always clear.
For our next CORE Connect event, we’re going to the historic bank vault at CORE Perth to have an honest conversation about how capital actually flows in this sector.
Speakers include:
✅Greg Riebe from Perth Angels
✅ Natalie Milne from Radium Capital
... with more to be announced!
We’ll cover:
☑️ When different types of funding makes sense
☑️ What investor and lenders look for
☑️ Common mistakes businesses make when structuring their capital
The aim of this event is to:
✔️ Strip away the fluff and generic pitches
✔️ Help unpack the realities behind funding decisions
✔️ Help founders and operators better understand the capital stack
✔️ Learn how to position your business for the right type of investment or finance
Stay for a drink and connect with the Perth CORE community.
💰 Cost: Free

Last week was a big week for CORE – events are kicking off!
Last week, we attended:
• Centre for Advanced Defence Research in Robotics & Autonomous Systems Showcase 2026 hosted by Adelaide University and Australian Government Defence Science and Technology Group
• Innovation Leaders’ Network event, hosted by the Department of State Development
• BHP partner discussions, focussing on practical collaboration to create an ongoing impact in the regions
• Spoke at the Fields and Fortunes – Regional Business Forum 2026
All of this before hosting our own CORE Connect in Perth – Build it or Kill it, a chance for ideas to be discussed openly to determine market viability.
But that’s not all!
We hosted events for the Australian Shareholders' Association and the IIBA Australia, HILT CRC and amongst it all, took huge steps on other exciting projects to come throughout the year.
A wonderful way to kick off the Year of the Fire Horse – and of course, it’s all systems go for a dynamic 2026! 🐎👏

Earlier this week, we had the chance to attend the Centre for Advanced Defence Research in Robotics & Autonomous Systems Showcase 2026 hosted by Adelaide University and Australian Government Defence Science and Technology Group.
With a focus on robotics of the future, it was particularly interesting to hear from our armed forces on how the Defence sector is utilising the robotics industry to innovate operations.
Special thanks to COL Jake Penley, CMDR Victor Yee & WGCDR Paul Hay for their panel discussion 'Robotics and Autonomous Systems in Future Warfare' - a highlight of the day!

Merry Christmas from all of us at CORE 🎄✨
As 2025 comes to a close, we just want to say a massive thank you to every CORE member across Perth, Adelaide and Newman. You have made our hubs feel like more than a workspace. You have made them a community.
Thank you for the ideas shared over coffees, the wins celebrated in the kitchen, the problem solving chats in the corridors, and the quiet determination that shows up every day when you are building something that matters. We feel genuinely lucky to be part of your journey.
