The research is clear 📚 reading aloud is one of the most powerful things we can do for our children.
When we read with a child, we’re doing far more than sharing a story. We’re building the foundations for language, confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
Decades of research shows that children who are read to regularly:
💛 Build stronger language skills
Hearing rich varied language in books exposes children to far more words than everyday conversation alone. This growing vocabulary helps them understand, communicate and make sense of the world.
💛 Develop early literacy skills long before they learn to read
Through stories, children learn how books work – that print carries meaning, that pages turn left to right, and that stories have a beginning, middle and end. These early understandings make learning to read feel familiar and exciting.
💛 Strengthen phonological awareness
Rhymes, rhythms and playful sounds help children hear the building blocks of language.
💛 Grow their comprehension and thinking skills
Talking together about a story, predicting what might happen, wondering how a character feels, and connecting events to real life helps children develop memory, problem-solving, and higher-order thinking.
💛 Experience connection, comfort and joy
Shared reading fosters calmness, closeness, and moments of joint attention. These warm interactions support a child's sense of security and belonging.
Most importantly, children who experience positive, engaging reading moments from a young age are more likely to develop a genuine love of books - something that matters even more than early literacy skills alone.
Reading is simple, joyful, and sets children up for success in school and life.

Centre Director Claire celebrates 20 years of service with Goodstart Early Learning Centres.
As I reflect on the past two decades, I am reminded that this milestone is not just about the years; it is about the people, relationships, experiences, and opportunities that have shaped my journey.
I feel incredibly grateful for the many people who have influenced, supported, challenged, and encouraged me throughout this time. From mentors and leaders to colleagues, educators, children, and families, each has played a part in shaping who I am today.
What has kept me passionate for 20 years is knowing that every day I have the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children, support families, and work alongside dedicated educators who are committed to giving children the best possible start in life.
There have been many memorable moments, lessons learned, challenges overcome, and achievements celebrated along the way. Through it all, my passion for early childhood education and making a meaningful impact has remained constant.
And what better way to celebrate this milestone than with a PJ Day Disco! 🎉🕺💃 A fun-filled day shared with children, families, and educators - along with special guests from our head office, who joined in the fun dressed in their PJs - making it an even more memorable celebration for our centre community!
Thank you to everyone who has been part of my journey over the last 20 years. I am proud of what we have achieved together and excited for what the future holds.

🛡️ Our Safety Champions
Supporting a Safe, Caring, and Confident Learning Environment
Safety Champions provide our Centre Director with a valuable second set of eyes and ears, helping to identify hazards, uphold policies and procedures, and ensure our centre remains a place where everyone is protected from harm.
They play an essential role in keeping our environment safe, secure, and supportive for all children, families, and educators. From conducting safety checks and modelling best practices, to promoting awareness and fostering a culture of care, our Safety Champions help create a space where every child can thrive.
We are proud to have Bronwyn, alongside our Kindy Safety Champions Adelina, Ahaan, and Elicia, leading this important work. You’ll often see them observing our learning spaces, supporting the team, and helping children build safe habits in fun, engaging, and age‑appropriate ways.
Their commitment ensures our centre remains a place where safety is not just a requirement, but a shared responsibility and a daily practice.
