Have you ever felt overwhelmed and stressed, saying 'yes' to every work project and sacrificing your personal time, only to end up emotionally exhausted and with strained relationships?
Did you know that not setting boundaries can be a slippery slope leading to burnout?
For a long time, I was in the dark about what boundaries even were. I used to say 'yes' to everything that came my way, even if it meant sacrificing my weekends.
Inspired by Brené Brown, I've come to understand that defining 'what is okay and what is not okay' is crucial for everyone involved.
What Are Boundaries?
Boundaries are the limits we set for ourselves and others.
For example, choosing not to check work emails after 6 pm to maintain work-life balance.
Why Do Boundaries Matter?
Without boundaries, we risk emotional exhaustion. I remember feeling drained when I didn't set limits on my availability. Boundaries create a respectful environment for everyone.
How to Set Boundaries?
1. Be Clear: Define what you can tolerate and what you can't. For instance, I now block out 'family time' in my calendar; that's non-negotiable.
2. Communicate: Discuss your boundaries openly with others. This can be uncomfortable, but it's best for you, them and the relationship.
3. Stand Firm: Saying 'no' is okay. I've turned down speaking engagements that didn't align with my values, which was liberating.
4. Reevaluate: Life changes, so update your boundaries as needed. I've adjusted my 'no meetings' times as my family's needs have changed.
My Journey
I still feel uncomfortable setting boundaries, but I've learned it's best for all parties involved. It's a practice that I'm still perfecting, but I know it's improving my well-being and resilience.
Remember, setting boundaries isn't just about self-preservation; it's about fostering respect and understanding in all your relationships.
Hey everyone! 🌟 I wanted to share a video with you about my recent experience at the Busselton 100 race. It's been almost five years since I last raced locally, and it turned out to be a genuinely eye-opening weekend. I met many amazing people who told me how my journey has inspired them to overcome their challenges.
I've been away from social media for a couple of years, mainly because of how it made me feel during the start of the pandemic. But after my time in Busselton and connecting with these incredible individuals, I realised that it's not about me. What I share can change someone's life, even if just by a small degree.
In this video, I discuss my goal to compete at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and how endurance sports have helped me develop mental resilience. I want to use my journey as a case study to prove that the lessons we learn from facing challenges can be applied to everyday life.
So, I've decided to continue showing up on social media—not for me, but for that one person who might be inspired by what I share. I'm looking forward to reconnecting with all of you, and I hope we can continue to support each other on our individual journeys. 💪
Watch the video and let me know your thoughts in the comments below. See you soon! 🏊♂️🚴♂️🏃♂️

There's a lot to love about my sport, triathlon.
The athletes I race against and their incredible stories stand out the most to me.
For example, from Spain, Lionel Morales lost his leg tragically at the age of 24 in a motorbike accident. He entered the world racing scene in 2014 and has always been one of my main rivals.
Lionel's dedication and love for triathlons are inspiring. In 2018 when the IPC(International Paralympic Committee) removed our race from Tokyo 2020. Lionel kept training and racing without any certainty that our race would return to Paris in 2024 when most other athletes quit, but he was ready when in December 2021, they announced our race would be in Paris.
2022 was the best racing season of his career, and he is currently ranked 1st in the world.
Then I saw he turned 50 last week, and I was like wtf.
I was shocked.
50. Most able-bodied 50-year-olds struggle with getting out of a low couch or keeping their blood pressure down, and then you have Lionel in the best shape of his life as an above-knee amputee racing triathlons faster than ever before.
It made me think, and I hope it makes you think. What's my excuse?
Lionel, thank you for what you do. You inspire me, and I look forward to the next time we race.
Me quedé perplejo!
