We Are Unbreakable
This morning, I read a post by Coral Santoro — and it hit me straight between the eyes. Her words were so powerful and true that I teared up. Not because I was sad or upset, but because I was so unbelievably proud of what my family and I have achieved — twice.
We made it.
Brave isn’t just a word — it’s packing up your life into a few suitcases and moving to another country with nothing but a plan. It’s the visas, the appointments, the endless forms. It’s meeting new landlords, opening new bank accounts, finding a new mattress, and standing in the dairy aisle choosing a yogurt you hope you’ll like.
It’s figuring everything out — doctors, dentists, schools, roads, milk, work — everything. Every single thing you can think of, you have to figure out from scratch.
Anyone who has done this — who has crossed borders and rebuilt their life — is unbreakable. You solved problems without a safety net. You didn’t cross borders to think small — you crossed them to expand your life. And because of that, you can do anything.
For us, it’s been a journey. From South Africa to Canada for three and a half years, and then uplifting again to Australia — it’s taken deep, inner strength. Immigrating tests everything: your marriage, your children’s confidence, your own dreams, your patience. It stretches every part of you. But when you stay grounded, keep your eyes on your goals, and remember not to take life too personally, the growth that follows is incredible.
For the four of us — we are unbreakable. Our marriage is stronger than ever, our confidence grounded in wisdom and faith, and we now truly understand what it means when they say patience is a virtue.
Sure, life still throws its curveballs. The unpredictability of it all never truly goes away. But we’ve learned that we’re adaptable and resilient. Sometimes you just have to put your head down and push through. Other times, you make a plan. And sometimes, you simply have to ask for help.
Looking at my two kids, I’m overwhelmed with pride.
My son is just weeks away from finishing his first year at university. Not only did he achieve incredible results, but he also played club rugby — his team even won the league! He made great friends, learned to surf, and started an internship.
My daughter skipped a grade, started high school, and embraced the change with such grace. She joined nearly every sport offered, played soccer for the school, and her team won the league. She’s excelling academically, taking on new subjects, and — bravely — even took up surfing as a subject (I still laugh about that one!).
None of this came easily. It takes daily effort, courage, and consistency. You don’t just walk into a new school or club in a foreign country and fit right in — you have to earn your place. And you both did. You are unbreakable. Always remember that.
And to my husband — the rock of our family. A silent warrior (and worrier), who has sacrificed so much of his own dreams to give us this life. He is the reason our kids have choices, opportunities, and freedom. His strength, faith, and love hold us steady.
To all three of you — this isn’t the end of the climb. The mountain ahead is still high, the summit still far. But I know this: you are zealous, strong, and wise enough to pause when you’re tired — to rest, refuel, and rise again.
Keep dreaming big. Damn big.
Reach for those goals, because you are capable of achieving them all.
Along the way, be kind. Love fiercely. Touch as many hearts as you can. Leave behind footprints of joy, love, and kindness.
And always remember — this mama knows: we are unbreakable.

Life as a mom with teenagers #2 Having a safety net for your kids. – Life Invigorating Last night my daughter had a school concert. It was a big ordeal getting ready. Hair, make-up, getting dressed. The only difference this year was that I had absolutely no part in all of this. She had a group of friends over. It started with them stretched out in front of the TV couches making snacks...
