UWA Jazz Club

The UWA Jazz Club (UWAJC) exists to organise and promote the listening, playing and appreciation of jazz music at the University of Western Australia.

The UWA Jazz Club (UWAJC) was established in 2011 to organise and promote jazz-related activities (including performances, jam sessions, listening sessions, workshops and masterclasses) at the University of Western Australia. It aims to raise the profile of jazz on campus and provide a platform for both students and professional artists and groups to perform there. In the first two years of its ex

istence, UWAJC has organised numerous on-campus jam sessions, including jams at the UWA Tavern on 30 April 2012 and 2013 to commemorate International Jazz Day. The Club also organised and promoted a performance by a leading Western Australian jazz-fusion group, "Sly", at the Tav in 2011. More recently, in February 2013, an ensemble of UWAJC members performed a selection of jazz standards to a large and appreciative audience in UWA's Hackett Café as part of the University's spectacular Centenary celebration, "LUMINOUSnight". Later in 2013, club members started performing regularly in the UWA Tavern. They also organised and participated in a workshop with world-renowned saxophonist and jazz educator Jamie Oehlers. UWAJC is not just a club for musicians. Avid listeners or curious newcomers to jazz are also welcome. Come along to one of our listening sessions to swap tunes or hear some new sounds. If you are a musician, our jam sessions will provide you with the opportunity to have a hit with fellow club members and professional musicians. If you play jazz, love it, or just want to learn more about it, UWAJC is the club for you. Please 'like' this page if you would like to support UWAJC, keep up with info about our activities and help spread the word about us. If you are a currently:
- a student enrolled at UWA;
- a staff member of UWA;
- a member of the UWA Student Guild
- an associate of the UWA Student Guild;
- an Honorary Life Associate of the UWA Student Guild;
- a member of the UWA Senate;
then you can also join the UWAJC as an ordinary member. Ordinary membership is $5 for UWA Student Guild members and $7 for non-Guild members. If you have previously been one of the above then you can still join the UWAJC as an associate member.

Welcome to the 2016 academic year everybody!

Though you may fret the prospect of deliriously typing a Ulysses sized word count mere hours before a deadline, 2016 will also bring fun times in equal measure we promise!

As for the Jazz Club we will still be running jams/hangouts throughout the semester, and we look forward to welcoming fresh faces just as much as returning ones - we are still looking for committee members for 2016 so if you have a general passion for music please get in touch on this page or contact Justin on 0466679378.

O-DAY: We unfortunately won't be able to hold a stall this Friday, but we encourage people to come contact us directly via Facebook so we can hook you up with a membership, so don't be shy!
