SIX JAILED FOR FORGING NATIONAL REGISTRATION CARDS

On Thursday, 30th July, 2026, the Lusaka Magistrate Court convicted and sentenced Brave Nsamba (42), Nduli Kakoma (46), Jack Banda (61) and Ephraim Chiyobeka (53), all Zambian nationals, together with Kenyan nationals Moses Mululu (57) and Hosea Kinuthia Kiai (23), to two (2) years imprisonment with hard labour each for forgery.
The two Kenyan nationals were additionally convicted of unlawful stay and fined K15,000 each or, in default of payment, six (6) months simple imprisonment.
The convictions followed investigations launched by the Department of Immigration on 24th July, 2025, after Hosea Kinuthia Kiai was apprehended during a routine compliance operation in Chipata's Central Business District.
Although he claimed to be a Zambian citizen and produced a Green National Registration Card (NRC), checks on the Zambia Immigration Management System established that he was a Kenyan passport holder, while the Department of National Registration, Passport and Citizenship confirmed that the NRC belonged to another person.
Further investigations led to the apprehension of fellow Kenyan Moses Mululu in Mkushi, who was also found with another person's NRC after falsely claiming Zambian citizenship.
Investigators subsequently apprehended Jack Banda and Nduli Kakoma in Lusaka before tracing the operation to Ephraim Chiyobeka, at whose residence officers recovered materials used in the illegal production of NRCs, including authentic laminating pouches, blank and forged National Registration Cards, passport photographs and academic certificates.
The final suspect, Brave Nsamba, an Assistant Registration Officer based at the Mansa District National Registration Office, was apprehended for allegedly supplying materials used in the production of the forged NRCs.
Investigations established that the syndicate had been fraudulently obtaining and producing National Registration Cards for foreign nationals at a fee.
Upon conclusion of investigations, the matter was submitted to the National Prosecutions Authority for prosecution.
The six accused persons were jointly charged with forgery, while the two Kenyan nationals faced an additional charge of unlawful stay.
The Department of Immigration reminds members of the public that the fraudulent acquisition, manufacture, possession or use of National Registration Cards and other national identity documents constitutes a serious criminal offence. Such acts undermine the integrity of the country's civil registration system, facilitate illegal immigration and organised crime, and threaten national security.
Members of the public are encouraged to report suspected cases involving forged National Registration Cards or other immigration-related offences to the nearest Immigration Office or any other law enforcement agency.

FOUR INJURED IN HEAD-ON TRUCK COLLISION IN KAPIRI MPOSHI

Four people have been injured after a Sino Howo truck collided head-on with a Man Truck along the Great North Road near Kambowa, about 13 kilometres south of Kapiri Mposhi.

Police say the crash happened around 13:40 hours after the driver of the Sino Howo truck allegedly attempted an improper overtaking manoeuvre, lost control and slammed into the oncoming truck.

The Man Truck was transporting copper cathodes, while the Sino Howo truck was carrying assorted goods. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, with the cargo also affected.

The injured include both drivers and their passengers, who are receiving treatment at Kapiri Mposhi District Hospital.

Central Province Police Commissioner Lemekani Chirwa says investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.

DEC SEZES 65kg OF CANNABIS, ARRESTED SIX SUSPECTS

The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested six suspects in separate intelligence-led operations targeting drug trafficking in the Copperbelt, Muchinga and Southern provinces.

Among those arrested is a suspected cannabis supplier in Mufulira, who was allegedly found with 65 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in a vehicle.

In a separate operation, DEC officers at the Victoria Falls Border intercepted a consignment of Benylin with codeine hidden in a truck, leading to the arrest of one suspect.

DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba says all six suspects are in lawful custody and are expected to appear before the court soon.

4 ROADS TARRED UNDER LUSAKA URBAN ROADS PROJECT

The rehabilitation and upgrading of 14.82 kilometres of selected urban roads in Lusaka has made significant headway, with over 12.5 kilometres of road already tarred, marking the completion of four roads.
This is according to a statement issued by the Lusaka City Council on its page.

The roads completed under Lot 2 of the rehabilitation and upgrading of selected urban roads are Acacia Road, Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe Road, Ibex Main Street and New Kasama Road.

The project, being implemented by Lumandwe Resources Limited under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and supervised by the Lusaka City Council's Engineering and Infrastructure Development Department, aims to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and enhance the durability of the city's road infrastructure.
