Healthy Mind Menu
Improving the lives and normalising the conversation around mental health for those working in Western Australia's hospitality industry.
Support doesn’t always have to happen in formal settings.
Sometimes it happens through shared conversations, casual check-ins, community groups, or simply being around people who understand similar experiences.
Across peer support spaces, there’s been a growing shift towards more organic connection, spaces where support develops naturally through shared understanding rather than structured processes alone.
Whether it’s a book club, community gathering, or social group, those moments of connection can still create meaningful support.
Because feeling understood often starts with knowing you’re not experiencing things alone.

One of the strongest parts of hospitality is the way people show up for each other during difficult times.
Not because they have to.
Because they genuinely care.
Moments like offering shifts to a teammate who needs them more, checking in on others, or stepping up to support the wider team are what create real community within workplaces.
Support in hospitality doesn’t only come from leadership.
Sometimes it comes from the people beside you, quietly making sure no one is carrying the pressure alone.
And those moments of compassion can leave a lasting impact long after the shift ends.
Hospitality is often viewed purely as a service industry.
But behind every experience is a team of people balancing creativity, pressure, timing, and the expectations of an entire room at once.
It’s an industry built on creating experiences for others while working within environments that are fast-paced, demanding, and constantly moving.
And while the goal is always to give people the best possible experience, the reality is that there are humans behind every plate, every interaction, and every service.
People doing their best to make dozens of guests feel looked after at the same time.
Sometimes, remembering the human side of hospitality matters just as much as the experience itself.

Hospitality is built around people.
The way teams speak to each other, support one another, and respond during high-pressure moments shapes the culture of a workplace more than most realise.
Kindness in hospitality isn’t just about service.
It’s about patience during difficult shifts.
Understanding when someone is struggling.
And creating environments where people feel respected and supported.
Sometimes, the smallest moments of care can have the biggest impact.

The pressures experienced in hospitality are not isolated experiences.
Across Australian workplaces, stress, anxiety, and burnout continue to impact how people feel, work, and engage within teams.
Recent workplace wellbeing data found:
• 41% of Australian workers experience constant stress
• 34% report feeling anxious
• 34% report feeling isolated at work
These numbers highlight why mental health support in hospitality needs to be ongoing, practical, and built into workplace culture.
Creating healthier workplaces starts with recognising the impact pressure can have on people behind the scenes.

Support in hospitality often looks different from other industries.
The people leading teams are usually right there in the middle of the environment, seeing the pace, pressure, and operational challenges firsthand.
That level of understanding matters.
Because when leaders are connected to the day-to-day realities of the floor, support becomes more genuine, practical, and relevant to what teams are actually experiencing.
It’s not support from a distance.
It’s support built through shared experience, visibility, and understanding.
And in hospitality, that connection can make a meaningful difference.

Hospitality environments move fast.
In high-pressure workplaces, communication and trust become essential to how teams function day to day.
That’s where psychological safety plays an important role.
When people feel safe to ask questions, speak openly, and communicate honestly, teams become more connected, resilient, and supportive.
It doesn’t just impact workplace culture.
It also shapes how teams perform, collaborate, and support guests.
Creating mentally healthier hospitality workplaces starts with creating spaces where people feel safe to contribute.
