✨ From cushion covers to custom pyjamas — what a journey! ✨

At the beginning of 2025, this wonderful couple walked into Studio Thimbles as complete beginners. Like so many of our students, they started with a simple goal: learn to sew and gain the confidence to make their own clothes.

Their first project? A cushion cover 😊

Since then, they have shown up week after week, project after project, technique after technique. They completed Level 1, then Level 2, then Level 3, and now, at Level 4, they have created these incredible pyjama sets.

And these aren't just any pyjamas!
This project includes collars, lapels, buttonholes, piping, slash pockets, yokes, cuffs, and so many advanced sewing techniques. Every detail represents new knowledge, new skills, and hours of practice and perseverance.

What makes me most proud isn't just the finished garments — it's the determination behind them. The willingness to keep learning, keep practicing, and keep showing up even when things felt challenging (and they do at times!).

Watching students grow from complete beginners into confident sewists is one of the greatest privileges of what we do 💕

And I have to say, I'm incredibly proud of our Studio Thimbles team too. Every day, we have the opportunity to guide, encourage, and support people on their sewing journey, helping them achieve things they once thought were beyond their reach.

Making your own clothing is such an exciting part of the sewing journey ✨

At our Sewing for Beginners Level 2 course, our students learn how to work with commercial sewing patterns, check sizing, understand pattern instructions step by step, cut fabric correctly, and adjust fitting along the way.

There’s something incredibly empowering about turning a flat piece of fabric into a garment made by you 💕

And the best part? You don’t have to figure it all out alone — we guide and support our students through every stage of the process, helping build confidence one class at a time ✂️

Seeing these lovely girls proudly wearing skirts they made themselves is such a special reminder that skills grow with time, support, and consistency. What once felt impossible slowly becomes familiar… and then one day, you realise: “I made this myself.” 💕

At Studio Thimbles, we support our students every step of the way — from complete beginners learning how to thread a machine, all the way through to sewing garments from commercial patterns and learning clothing alterations.

I just love, love, love these adorable sleep masks our students made — daisies 🌼, bees 🐝, hearts, and even the Hungry Caterpillar… each one is just too cute!

At our latest Sewing Trial Class, every participant sat at a sewing machine for the very first time and created their own sleep mask from scratch ✨

As always, we had so much fun teaching and hopefully inspired another group of makers to give sewing a go, keep learning, and continue practicing their new skills.

💐 A little late… but this one was worth keeping secret. 💛

Last week, our young makers were busy creating something very special… handmade gifts for their mums.
And honestly, watching the thought, love, and care that went into each project was so special to see.

They carefully chose fabrics in colours their mums would love…thought about every little detail…and kept the surprise beautifully hidden until Mother’s Day 🫶

This is what I love most about teaching kids to sew — it’s never just about learning a skill.
It’s about creating something with your own hands… for someone you love.
Truly handmade. Truly heartfelt.

I hope all the mums out there felt extra loved and spoiled this Mother’s Day 💐

And to our young makers — you did an incredible job. We absolutely love seeing kids create with heart 💛
