Gear Up: Building Site Ready Pathways for Women in Mining

Mader’s Gear Up traineeship gives women the skills and hands on experience to hit the ground running in mining.

Participants get real TAFE training, work alongside seasoned technicians on site, and learn the ropes of site life.

Delivered in two five week blocks combining off site training and on site experience.

Alex's Journey with Mader: From Pilbara to Canada

"I kicked off my Mader journey in 2021, joining the HRT team in the Pilbara. It was a solid start, tough work, but I was all in. Fast forward to 2023, and I was leading the team, stepping up as a Team Leader, upskilling, and learning more every day.

Then, in 2025, life took an exciting turn. I moved to Canada through Mader’s GPI program. The shift was a big one, but it’s been incredible. I’ve worked in three provinces across the country, upskilled to HD, and gained serious experience along the way. When I’m not working, I love exploring Canada, checking out new places and taking in the sights. Back home, you’ll find me camping and hitting the trails with my rock crawler.

Through it all, I’ve made lifelong friends. People who’ve become like family. And the best part? The work/home balance. Mader’s always been flexible with time off when I’ve needed it, which has made all the difference. My favourite thing about working in Canada? The snow and cold! While most people can’t stand it, I absolutely love it. My dad’s Canadian, so I guess it’s in my DNA to enjoy that chill.

It’s been one hell of a ride so far, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next."
