MY FINISH LINE 🏁

… as they say many international students in Australia come from well-off families. And today, I started to believe that might be true.

I came early to my afternoon class, just quietly waiting, when a classmate I hadn’t seen in a while walked in.

“Hey, it’s been a while! How are you?”

“I’m good! How are you?”

“I’m great. Btw, Congratulations!”

She looked surprised. “For what?”

“I heard the news!”

“Ohh! yeah,” she smiled.

That casual chat led to deeper conversation. Then she shared that just two weeks ago, they had acquired a business here in Australia. I didn’t ask much for all the details, but it really amazed me.

I’ve known her for a while. It never crossed my mind that we could discuss something like that personally.

That moment got me thinking.

🤔What does it really take to do something like that here?

Back in the Philippines, I worked across different industries, and as a business consultant, I helped businesses both start and thrive. But here in Australia, everything is so unfamiliar. I’ve even considered taking another course maybe another Business Administration or Accounting just to understand how things work in first-world countries like Australia. But I’m already deep into Business Analytics, and that alone is stretching me in new ways.

Her story reminded me that there are many ways to grow, and that we’re all walking our own pace, on paths we quietly carve out day by day.

Back in 2022, during the height of the election season, I decided to deactivate my Facebook account. Why? Because I was working in a non-partisan organization and as part of that role, I had to remain neutral and avoid participating in political issues.

That time, and even now, the irresponsible use of social media continues. It has become a battleground where kapwa Pilipino are attacking each other over differing opinions, so I chose to step away for my own peace of mind. Dili pod baya ka katulog maghuna-huna. Kinsa gud dili gusto og kaayohan para sa mahal nating Pilipinas diba?

At kahit nasa Australia ako ngayon, ramdam ko ang iba’t ibang emosyon ng mga kapwa kong Pilipino.

The news in the Philippines has been overwhelming, and some social media posts seem exaggerated. I understand that many Filipinos are now trying their luck in content creation to gain attention and earn through social media. I’m not posting this to share my viewpoint (as Duterte supporter) but to remind everyone to be responsible when sharing news - respect others opinion and always fact-check before spreading information.

Praying for wisdom, unity and God’s guidance for my beloved country.

Survived another trimester and it wasn’t easy! Lost 3kg from stress and even cried 😭😭😭 my heart out over the last assessment (AI & Machine Learning subject) but checking my course progression today - I’m just grateful I made it. 🙏🎉

Still have more steps to leap to get closer to the finish line! Through it all, the presence of my daughter keeps me pushing forward. 🎓
