Vale Neale Daniher
Australia has lost one of its greats. The 2025 Australian of the Year was a football legend, a courageous leader, and an extraordinary advocate in the fight against MND.
Neale Daniherโs strength, dignity and determination inspired a nation. Through his leadership of the FightMND campaign, he transformed personal adversity into hope, raising vital awareness and millions of dollars towards finding a cure.
He will be remembered not only for his achievements in football, but for the profound impact he made on the lives of countless Australians.
An incredible Australian whose legacy will continue for generations.
Our thoughts are with Jan, Bec, Luke and the extended Daniher family.

Volunteers recognised in the Australian of the Year Awards ๐ซ
The Australian of the Year Awards have recognised some outstanding volunteers over the years.
In Western Australia, we've had the privilege to acknowledge individuals like 2025 WA Local Hero, Dr Jacinta Vu, who gives her skills and expertise as an oral medicine specialist to help women get their smile back through Healing Smiles.
In the same year, Jack Anderson was named WA's Young Australian of the Year for founding Elucidate Education, which provides free text books to schools in low socioeconomic areas, thanks to the help of some 70 volunteers.
Then there's 2022 WA Local Hero, Craig Hollywood, who collaborates with hairdressers and barbers to provide free haircuts to people experiencing homelessness, through Short Back & Sidewalks.
Thanks to these volunteer leaders and the support of hundreds of volunteers who provide their services, our communities are better supported, more enriched, and have the ability to thrive.
