This weekend, local artist Nami Osaki will be creating our life-sized cardboard postal delivery van at Bassendean Memorial Library, and we'd love to see the whole community get involved!
While the project is perfect for children and families, this invitation is for everyone. We'd especially love to welcome older community members to come along and share their memories of letters, postcards and stamps.
Do you have a stamp collection tucked away at home? Feel free to bring it along to show our younger visitors! Many children today have had very little experience with postage stamps, so it's a wonderful opportunity to spark conversations across generations and share a little piece of postal history.
Drop in, say hello, and watch this amazing artwork come to life! 📮✨

Today's Tuesday Treasure is a view of the B.I.C. Ground , including Tennis Courts and Football Ground beyond, 1936.
The B. I. C. Reserve (named for the Bassendean Improvement Committee) was originally known as Hays' Swamp after the journalist who lived in a wooden castle on the site. In 1925 it was purchased by the Bassendean Improvement Committee and beautified in subsequent years. It was officially opened in 1935. In 2008 the Tennis Pavilion was demolished, later tennis courts were removed and in 2015 the Bassendean War Memorial was relocated to the BIC Reserve.

This National Reconciliation Week, we are embracing the 2026 theme, All In; a reminder that reconciliation is something we all take part in together.
The artwork for this year’s theme was created by Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung artist Otis Hope Carey. It’s title: Gaagal takes its name from the Gumbaynggirr word for “Ocean,” a powerful spiritual totem for the Gumbaynggirr people. The movement and flow of its ocean currents symbolises people from all backgrounds coming together.
Thank you to everyone who came together for our Reconciliation-themed Rhymetime and Storytime sessions, where we talked about what it means to be sorry, where we sang some of Gina William’s songs in Noongar and read stories by the wonderful Sally Morgan.
It’s wonderful to see so many people taking steps in their reconciliation journey, borrowing books by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander authors, and embracing First Nations kaartdijin.
Let’s continue forward with open minds and open hearts. Always was, always will be ❤️💛🖤
