Over the Easter weekend, Removing Barriers had the privilege to play an exhibition match at the opening ceremony of the Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Championships. The match was full of excitement, loud support from over 500 state representatives, and two RB teams full of immense amount of joy and pride. Thank you to West Coast Thunder for their generous support across the week of nationals, not only providing us an opportunity to play, but dedicating an entire day of the competition to Removing Barriers. To all of the other states and territories, thank you for your support during the exhibition match. You made our athletes and staff feel as though their barriers have been removed.

Please read below to understand the importance of matches like these and how it has impacted the lives of our athletes:

Representation, Exposure and Opportunity: The Pillars of Success in Minority Groups

Representation, exposure, and opportunity are fundamental to empowering minority groups and creating pathways for meaningful participation and growth. When individuals can see themselves reflected, are given access to new environments, and are provided with genuine opportunities, confidence and ambition begin to flourish.

This was powerfully demonstrated when Removing Barriers took to the court for an exhibition match at the Australian Men’s and Mixed Netball Championships. Performing on a national stage, in front of more than 500 state representatives, our athletes experienced a level of recognition and support many had never encountered before.

The impact was immediate. The energy, encouragement, and visibility not only celebrated their abilities but also ignited a renewed sense of belief and aspiration. For many, it reinforced that they belong in the sport, not just at a community level, but on larger stages as well.

Moments like this highlight the importance of continued investment in inclusive opportunities. When representation is visible and opportunities are created, it doesn’t just inspire participation, it builds a hunger for more and drives lasting change.

Removing Barriers would like to congratulate Coach Jack for his appointment in making West Coast Thunder’s 17&U team. Unfortunately due to injury Jack has not been able to take the court this week, but, he has been the number one supporter as he watches his team go through undefeated thus far.

Jack, we are all here for you and proud of you for what you have accomplished so far. We cannot wait to see you come back faster and stronger, taking on the nationals stage in the years to come πŸ§‘πŸ’šπŸ©΅πŸ’œπŸ©·
