Our ATAR PES professional learning day is fast approaching and registrations are rolling in!

Here's a summary of the day so far, with more sessions to be added:

• PES Exam & Marking Key Review
• Effective Assessment; Setting Up Investigations & Exam Questions
• Unpacking the Practical Exam
• Practical Lab Activiteis to Compliment Yr 12 ATAR Theory Course Content
• Understanding the Exam Glossary

According to key exam markers, improving how students understand and respond to glossary terms is one of the most effective ways to increase overall exam performance as it's one of the biggest areas students struggle with. This session has been designed to help you learn how to better support students in interpreting exam glossary terms and structuring their responses correctly.

• Teacher Collaboration Workshop

This is a facilitated session designed to exchange and implement what’s already working in classrooms across WA. Share practical tools, teaching strategies and assessment ideas with fellow PES teachers.

Last Friday, ACHPER WA welcomed over 60 teachers to our first Professional Learning event for 2026, focused on ATAR Health Studies.

The program was led by Kelsie McRae and Bron Carter, with the generous support of UWA, who kindly hosted us for the day. A big thank you to Kelsie, Bron and Martin Anderson from UWA for their time, expertise and ongoing support; we truly appreciate the contribution you made to the success of this event.

We’d also like to thank our event sponsor, PE Studies Resources. They have recently released a comprehensive suite of ATAR and General Health Studies PowerPoints to support the delivery of the Year 11 and 12 courses. They are also developing an extensive range of additional teacher resources to further support both ATAR and General Health Studies in the coming months. Our next PL event will be held on March 23, with a focus on ATAR PES. We are currently seeking input from PES teachers who would like to contribute ideas to help shape the day and program. If you’re interested in being involved, please email [email protected].

The ACHPER WA team is excited to announce that our ATAR-specific PL days are returning in 2026!

ATAR Health Studies has now been confirmed for Friday, 20th February 2026 at UWA.

This full-day workshop will be led by Kelsie McRae, Head of Health and Physical Education Bob Hawke College, with the detailed program to be released soon.

Last year’s tickets sold out quickly, and we will again be capping numbers due to theatre capacity, so if you’re keen to attend, we encourage you to secure your place early.

We’ve officially reached over 190 registrations for the 2025 ACHPER WA HPE Conference - our biggest turnout in years!

We are a small not-for-profit organisation, with a volunteer Board who give their time because they’re deeply committed to supporting HPE educators.

We have just one part-time employee (yes - only one and yes - she's very tired! 🤪).

All of our presenters generously volunteer their time to share their expertise and elevate our sector.

Our trade stall partners invest in being part of the conference because they believe in contributing to high-quality HPE education.

Every registration directly supports future professional learning, meaning the more people who join us, the more we can offer educators next year - and that’s incredibly exciting for us all.

We’re Looking for Volunteers!

The ACHPER WA team is on the hunt for enthusiastic volunteers to help at this year’s State HPE Conference!

If you’re passionate about Health and Physical Education, this is a great chance to get involved, gain hands-on event experience, and connect with HPE professionals from across WA.

Volunteers will receive:
- Free conference polo shirt
- Free catering during the event
- Free access to attend conference sessions

When: Monday 24 & Tuesday 25 November
Where: ECU Mt Lawley
Time: 7am - 3pm (or later if you can!)
