Lately, we’ve been listening closely to the feedback and comments on our page from those who support the proposed 9-hectare sand mine on the Yallingup Ridge.
We want to address those points directly, because we actually agree with the core argument: our region needs sand, we need local jobs, and we desperately need to make housing more affordable. 🇦🇺🏗️
The South West is facing a real housing crisis. Local construction sand is absolutely essential to lay concrete slabs and build the brick homes that young local families are fighting to afford. Keeping raw material costs down is a vital part of solving that puzzle. More importantly, civil works, earthmoving, and transport industries provide year-round, high-paying jobs that keep our local families afloat.
Our campaign has never been about halting progress, stopping development, or making it harder to build a home. It is strictly about location. 📍
The City of Busselton already has designated strategic zones further inland on the flat coastal plain—such as Kaloorup and Tutunup—specifically mapped for basic raw material extraction. 🗺️
Sourcing sand from these established, already cleared inland zones is incredibly efficient. It keeps supply lines open to the major growth corridors without forcing heavy industry onto our premier tourism trails. Furthermore, it protects our coastal economy, which local businesses rely on to pay the very wages that help people buy homes in the first place.
Destroying the Cape's character to save a few dollars on transport costs is a short-term view that hurts our region's long-term affordability.
We do not need to sacrifice the historic canopy of Caves Road or sensitive coastal ecosystems to keep housing affordable or to keep our local blokes employed. The jobs, the sand, and the efficiency belong inland.
This isn't about "Us vs. Them." It’s about the right resource in the right place. 🤝

Yummy home made vege biryani 😋.
Biryani originated from Persia (modern day Iran) and eventually travelled to India.
Tbh this is a cheats version of biryani 🤷🏼♀️.
Fry chopped onion in ghee on a medium heat. Add pounded garlic ginger chilli cu**in cardamom pods star anise and cloves. And fry. Add bay leaf cinnamon and a smidge of safron. Add a chopped tomato. Add a dash of home made chicken or vegetable stock. Add organic tumeric. Add vegetables (I used peas beans and broccoli). Next time I will use peas beans cauliflower and a little pumpkin (broccoli doesn't work in this dish). Add a large dollop of yougurt. Add cooked basmati rice. And voila. Easy peasy 🙏🏼
