What makes you feel respected? 🤍

This question came up in a discussion within the Jem team recently, and what struck us was that no two answers were the same.

For some people, respect looks like clear communication.

For others, it’s being acknowledged and appreciated.

For some, it’s trust, honesty, or simply being treated with kindness.

It got us thinking about how important it is to understand what respect means to the people around us whether that’s our couples, fellow vendors, venue teams, or our own colleagues.

In an industry built on relationships, respect is one of the most valuable things we can give each other.

So we’re curious…

What makes you feel respected?

There are no right or wrong answers. We’d genuinely love to hear your perspective and continue the conversation 🥂

Our last post generated far more discussion than we expected.

One thing became clear from reading the comments: this conversation is much bigger than women in business.

Bullying, gossip, personal attacks and public criticism can affect anyone, regardless of gender, experience level or role within the industry.

At the same time, healthy conversations about standards, transparency, pricing and experience are important. They help businesses grow, improve the client experience and strengthen our industry as a whole.

The challenge is knowing where the line is.

There is a difference between discussing ideas and attacking people.

We can uphold standards without tearing others down.

We can value growth without dismissing those who are new.

We can disagree without being disrespectful.

And if you’re struggling, feeling isolated, or experiencing bullying within our industry, please know you’re not alone. Our inbox is always open. While we may not have all the answers, we’re always happy to listen, offer support, or simply remind you that someone is in your corner.

At the end of the day, behind every business is a human being doing their best.

Maybe community over competition isn’t about always agreeing.

Maybe it’s about treating each other with respect, even when we don’t.

There’s a big difference between constructive conversations and public bullying.

You don’t have to agree with someone’s pricing, style or business model.
You also don’t need to publicly tear them apart for it.

The wedding industry should have room for different personalities, different price points and different ways of doing business.

Confident women are not the problem.
Public humiliation, gatekeeping and online pile-ons are.

A little more professionalism and a little less public nastiness would go a long way.

We honestly never expected The Day You Deserved giveaway to resonate the way it has 🤍

Over the past few weeks, we’ve received so many incredibly emotional stories from couples who never truly got the wedding memories they deserved.

Stories of:
• weddings destroyed by torrential rain
• COVID lockdowns changing wedding plans overnight
• missing or heartbreaking wedding galleries
• rushed ceremonies
• losing loved ones shortly after the wedding day
• and couples who still, years later, can’t look back on their photos without feeling sadness or disappointment.

Some of these submissions have genuinely brought us to tears.

As wedding vendors, we know weddings don’t need to be perfect, but everyone deserves memories they can look back on with happiness.

Entries officially close 31st May 2026, with the winning couple announced the following week and honestly, choosing just one couple is already feeling impossible.

✨ For the couples who didn’t get the moments they hoped for✨

Lately, we’ve seen more and more couples walk away from their wedding without the memories they expected.
For some, that’s missing or delayed photo galleries, or images that didn’t quite capture the day the way they’d imagined.
For others, it’s moments that felt rushed, interrupted, or never quite happened the way they were meant to, whether that’s unexpected changes or loved ones not being able to be there.

And honestly, that doesn’t sit right with us.

So, we’re doing something about it 🤍

Together with an incredible team of vendors, we’re giving one couple the chance to capture those moments again or create new ones that mean just as much.
