Waterproofing is a critical stage in wet areas such as bathrooms, ensuites and laundries, creating a protective membrane beneath the finished surfaces to help prevent moisture from penetrating into the surrounding structure.

It's usually applied across the required areas, including the shower zone and around key junctions where water exposure is expected.

Seeing waterproofing go down is also a good indication of what's coming next: the tiling stage. Once the waterproofing is complete and ready for the next stage, the selected tiles can begin going in and the finished bathroom design becomes much easier to visualise.

It's often the smaller design choices that have the biggest impact, and this North Perth bathroom is full of them. Here's what we're loving:

• The floating timber vanity paired with the dark stone benchtop creates a clean, streamlined look while introducing contrast and making the room feel larger and more open.

• Brushed tapware and fixtures add a softer, more refined finish that's become a popular choice for homeowners wanting a timeless alternative to chrome or black.

• The floor-to-ceiling windows flood the bathroom with natural light, enhancing the sense of space while maintaining privacy.
