Loving this word.
Kuchisabishii is a fascinating Japanese term that describes a feeling of loneliness or emptiness in the mouth, often leading to eating even when not hungry. It's a unique concept that highlights the emotional connection between food, comfort, and satisfaction. In essence, kuchisabishii captures the idea that sometimes, we eat not just to satisfy our physical hunger but also to alleviate emotional hunger, dysregulation or boredom. It's a relatable feeling, isn't it?
Have you experienced kuchisabishii before?

And now I have a sudden urge to learn Japanese.

When we feel overwhelmed, highly anxious, stressed or agitated, we can be swept up by our fight-or-flight response and become very reactive. Being able to handle difficult emotions can help you more quickly return to a state of equilibrium when new stressors arise.
Self-soothing is one way to comfort, nurture and be kind to yourself when you feel you cannot control a situation, but need to manage your response. A way to remember these skills is to think of soothing your 5 senses- touch, sight, sound, smell and taste. Check out this awesome self-soothing kit set up by one of our clients at Dietwiseπ

Fat shaming is rampant throughout the medical system ranging from visits to the GP, medical specialists and even allied health professionals. This denies people of equitable adequate healthcare in fear of their health concerns being dismissed or minimised to recommendations to lose weight if BMI is high. At Dietwise, we support clients to optimise health outcomes independent of weight loss recommendations and focus on health promoting behaviours.

The hidden impact of fat shaming in Australia's medical system For generations words like fat, obese and overweight have been thrown around like hand grenades. In medical settings, the damage dealt can last generations. And the victims are overwhelmingly female.
