A small act of respect can make a meaningful difference.

With tomorrow’s nationwide AusAlert test, we kindly ask everyone attending a funeral service to switch their mobile phone completely off before entering the chapel. This simple gesture helps ensure every farewell remains peaceful, uninterrupted and focused on honouring the life being remembered.

Thank you for helping us preserve the dignity of every service.

👏 A Thoughtful Refurbishment at Karrakatta Cemetery 👏

Today I had the opportunity to see the beautifully refurbished family meeting area at the main entrance of Karrakatta Cemetery, and I wanted to acknowledge the outstanding work undertaken by the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board.

This is not a new structure, but a carefully considered refurbishment that has respectfully enhanced one of the most significant gathering places within the cemetery. The result is a space that feels brighter, more welcoming and befitting of the families who gather here each day.

The restoration of the shelter, the fresh presentation, improved lighting, quality seating and the addition of the fascinating Karrakatta Historical Trails display have transformed the area into somewhere families can pause, reflect and learn about the remarkable history of this iconic cemetery while waiting to farewell a loved one.

As funeral professionals, we witness firsthand how important these spaces are. They are where families meet, embrace one another, share stories and prepare for one of life’s most difficult moments. Having a space that is clean, comfortable and respectfully presented makes a meaningful difference.

At Silkwood Funerals, we sincerely appreciate the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board’s continued investment in improving the experience for grieving families. These thoughtful refurbishments demonstrate a genuine commitment to providing dignified, welcoming environments for our community.

Congratulations to everyone involved in this refurbishment. It is a wonderful example of preserving heritage while enhancing the experience for the thousands of families who visit Karrakatta Cemetery each year.

Well done to the entire team—your work is noticed and genuinely appreciated. 💙

Together, With Respect. Together, With Love. 🖤❤️💛🏳️‍🌈

At Silkwood Funerals, we believe every life deserves to be honoured with dignity, respect and authenticity.

Recently, we had the privilege of supporting a family whose service celebrated both Aboriginal heritage and the LGBTQIA+ community. It was a beautiful reminder that love, culture and identity can come together to tell the unique story of someone’s life.

Every funeral we arrange is as individual as the person being remembered. Whether through cultural traditions, personal beliefs, community connections or the symbols that meant the most to them, we are committed to creating meaningful farewells that truly reflect a life lived.

We are proud to stand alongside the Indigenous communities of Western Australia and the LGBTQIA+ community, providing a safe, inclusive and compassionate space where every family feels seen, heard and supported.

In moments of loss, kindness has no boundaries. Respect has no conditions. And love always brings people together.

At Silkwood Funerals, we are honoured to walk beside every family, every culture and every community.
