10 YEARS. ❤️

Today marks 10 years since the grand opening of The Backyard Barber… and honestly, I’m not even sure how I feel about it.

On one hand, I’m immensely proud of what I’ve built, everything I’ve accomplished and incredibly grateful for every single person who has walked through our doors and followed me through every chapter.

On the other hand… if I knew 10 years ago what I know now, would I do it all again?

I genuinely don’t know. 😂

Business is one of those things that can humble you and break you, while somehow building you and growing you at the exact same time.

It requires your heart and soul. It requires huge sacrifices some that still keep me awake at night. It’s brought me to my knees more than once, and the challenges never really stop. You just seem to get better at getting back up.

In 10 years we’ve survived COVID, cancer, staff coming and going, shop refits, landlords, uncertainty, ridiculous amounts of stress and more “what the actual f&$k am I doing?” moments than I could ever count.

Some people who came into this business became lifelong friends. Some completely broke my heart.

There have been times I genuinely thought the stress might drown me. Times the never ending to do list felt impossible. Times I’ve wondered whether owning a business was worth what it asks of you.

And then someone leaves a review.

Not just an “I love my hair” review.

One of those reviews that reminds you that, for a little moment in somebody’s day, you actually made a difference.

You made someone feel special. Heard. Understood. Comfortable. Confident.

You got to connect with them and share a tiny part of their life.

And suddenly you remember why you do it.

It’s so easy these days, especially with social media, to look at business owners and think they’re living the dream. Trust me, I do it too.

But business is HARD.

It consumes your life, destroys your nervous system and sends you a lil bit batty. 😂

But it has also challenged me, pushed me, taught me and changed me in ways I never could have imagined.

Sometimes I actually look around and think…

Far out. I did that.

Ten years later I still have massive imposter syndrome. I’m still shocked sometimes that this little idea became what it is today.

But more than anything, I’m grateful.

To every client who has ever trusted us.

To every staff member, current and past, who has been part of our story.

To my family and friends who have supported me through the wins, the losses, the tears, the stress, the ridiculous ideas and everything in between.

And to everyone who has cheered us on, recommended us, shared our posts, left a review, booked an appointment or simply walked through our doors thank you.

Without you, there is no TBB.

I’m grateful for every lesson, every win, every loss and every opportunity these 10 years have given me.

So… knowing everything I know now, would I do it all again?

Yeah.

Probably. 😂❤️
