In 2009 the Knapp family had firsthand experience with the ICU at RPH. Never in their wildest dreams would they have ever expected to experience what they did.
Intensive Crew is a team dedicated to raising funds for & awareness of the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation so that they can fund vital medical research to enable our sickest members of the community the best chance of survival. Early hours of the morning of September 7th Allen & Sharon Knapp received the knock on the door that changed their family forever. Two police officers st
ood there to tell them their eldest boy Dwayne had had an accident & was being taken to RPH. They were advised to head straight to there. On arriving at RPH they were given the horrific news that their son was unlikely to survive the injuries he sustained in his motor vehicle accident. Apart from breaking nearly every part of his body, his car had also amputated his right leg. Later that morning the family were told that the doctors had to amputate his left leg in an effort to save his life, though they were still doubtful that Dwayne would survive. However, after almost six weeks, this amazing department performed miracles beyond everyone's belief & gave the Knapp Family their son & brother back. For this reason Intensive Crew was formed & they are now dedicated to raising funds for & awareness of this fantastic organisation. The Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation is dedicated to improving the care of those who need it most in our community, the critically ill. Over 165,000 people are treated in Intensive Care in any one year. This includes 10,000 babies & children. Unfortunately there is no one reason as to who ends up in Intensive Care: accidents, heart attacks, strokes, pneumonia, asthma & even swine flu are just some of the reasons. So anyone, at any time can find themselves in Intensive Care. At the Australian & New Zealand Intensive Care Foundation, they fund vital critical Intensive Care research, because they understand the funding research is the best & most effective way to save lives. They fund world class research knowing that they are helping to save many lives each & every day. As each life is a miracle, with your support, they are Making Miracles Happen….
