The Rosette Nebula SH2-275
This nebula can be described as a thin, layered disc of stellar gasses with a central hole blown out by the stellar winds from NGC2244, the central cluster of young stars
I like the look of the hole in this image where you can see through the layer of Oiii (Oxygen) and the plasma bubble to the Ha on the other side. The Oxygen rich layer appears to be sandwiched on both sides by Ha (hydrogen).
Quick factoids:
5000 ly away 130ly across
Found in the constellation Monoceros
Large star in foreground is Mon12 a k class giant star
Three behind are O type hypergiant stars,
burning at 30-50,000K,
With a mass of around 10,000 suns and around 400,000 brighter than our sun
Together their radiation and solar winds are superheating the bright blue plasma bubble to somewhere around 5 million Kelvin in temp
There are over 2500 new stars forming in the top left quadrant alone
Also known as the Skull nebula
The dark dust clouds in the foreground are known as Bok globules

Finally I am able to show something from my time up here, no northern targets I’m afraid but a reprocess of some of my Australian data!!

Looking forward to some darker skies on my return down under!!

The Rosette Nebula (also known as the skull nebula) sits in the Milky Way about 5,000 light-years from Earth. Massive stars at its core have blasted a hole with radiation and charged gas particles, called stellar wind into the cloud of interstellar dust and material.
3.5hrs of exposure time using a hydrogen alpha narrowband filter
