What does real-world experience bring to Mental Health First Aid training?

For Darryl Johnson, it means 26 years as a registered mental health nurse, combined with 3.5 years delivering Mental Health First Aid to workplaces and community groups.

Darryl has worked across acute, community and crisis settings and brings additional experience from his time in the Australian Defence Force, along with expertise in psychosocial safety. He has also delivered health and safety training with Trainwest over the past 4 years, including Statutory Positions training.

His approach is practical, culturally safe and grounded in real-world situations, helping participants build the confidence to recognise when someone may be struggling, respond appropriately and support them towards the right help.

As we reach the final chapter of Kate's Team Member Spotlight journey, we’re stepping beyond her role at Trainwest and getting to know the person behind it all.

From travel and food trips to coffee, sweets, music and karaoke, Kate loves making time for the things that bring her joy. ☕🎶✈️
