the exciting part about releasing new music is all the other fun, creative stuff you get to make! it all adds to the world that my music lives in. im so lucky i get to work with such talented people to make the vision come to life 🫶

'how we were' out in 6 sleeps!!!

it was exactly a year ago I was in LA writing a whole bunch of new music!
one year later im finally starting to release the songs out into the world so buckle in!

'How We Were' was written on my third day in the studio with and - a trinity of creatives who came together by chance. i loved diving into the story of the song with them along with my wide array of references. they heard me and got the feel for the kind of world i was trying to create.

i wanted the song to feel like you could be in a scene of your own movie. I wanted it to take you to a romanticised place in your past where you felt comfort. i wanted enough raw sonic textures to bring you back to the present. i was so lucky to work with Stevie and Grace, i couldn't have asked for a better collab 🫶

i wrote "how we were" about growing up and the friendships that helped shape me. in your early 20s, you're navigating so many hurdles - figuring out who you are and what you want, making mistakes, and just trying to find your way.

as we get older, paths naturally start to part. but i’ve realised that whether you’re across the world or just doing different things in the same city, real connections always keep that unspoken understanding.

taking the leap into my solo career has been so freeing, but i wouldn't have had the strength to choose myself without the lessons and advice from the friends who saw me from the start. it made me realise how much those people stay with you, even when you aren't in each other's pockets anymore.

i wrote down a few things those friendships taught me along the way:

✨ keep the big dreams. being a dreamer is a beautiful thing, don't let anyone tell you you're being too idealistic.
✨ distance doesn't affect the real ones. you don't have to be in the same place to keep that unspoken bond. the right people stay with you even when life pulls you in different directions.
✨ look after that inner child. find the people who make you feel safe enough to be your most authentic self. that’s where you're most comfortable and creative!
✨ choose yourself. taking the leap into my solo project was the best decision ever. i've always been someone who put others before myself but as soon as i made the decision to back myself and my vision, real things started to happen.
