Barrow Wins Round One of Winter Development Series
Chris Barrow has made the trip down the highway to Bunbury worthwhile, claiming victory in the opening round of the 2026 Winter Development Series for Late Models.
Barrow was strong throughout the day, recording a heat race win and a third-place finish to secure pole position for the feature race.
At the drop of the green, Barrow led away from Nathan Richards, who quickly moved to the outside and began applying pressure before the caution lights came on for a spinning Brett Niall in turn two.
The restart saw Richards continue the challenge, however he had a moment coming out of turn four which cost him several positions. This allowed Barrow to break clear, while Nathan Callaghan moved into second and Ewan Dickson climbed to third.
Barrow extended his advantage to more than four seconds before another caution was triggered just after halfway distance in the fifteen lap event when Craig Greentree spun in turn four. Barrow narrowly avoided heavy contact, with his right rear clipping the nose cone of Greentree’s car in what could have been a major incident.
Brought back to the field for the restart, Barrow again quickly established control. Unfortunately, the race was soon interrupted once more when rookie Blake Simpson made heavy contact that saw him also out of the race.
Barrow, Callaghan and Richards led the field back to green, but Greentree again spun in turn four to bring on another stoppage.
On lap ten, Dickson charged past several cars before the cone on the restart, however another caution for Bryn Haythornthwaite stopped the action and saw Dickson relegated for the next attempt at a restart.
Again the race resumed, but this time Haythornthwaite and Dickson came together in turn two. With time and light running low, combined with the numerous stoppages throughout the race, officials declared the event complete, handing Barrow the victory ahead of Callaghan and Richards.
The Late Model Winter Series will be in action again on the 14th of June at Ellenbrook Speedway.

WINTER SERIES BEGINS!
The road to another winter of Late Model action begins this Saturday afternoon at the Bunbury Speedway as the opening round of the Winter Development Series fires into life.
Designed to give drivers valuable laps, test new combinations and continue building experience, the series once again features an exciting mix of developing racers, returning names and established competitors eager to sharpen their skills ahead of the next Pro Dirt Series campaign.
Several familiar faces from last year’s development series are set to return, with Adam Ambrose, Ewan Dickson and Brett Niall all back for another crack. The trio became regular fixtures throughout last winter and will be keen to continue progressing as they gain more valuable seat time.
Nathan Richards, Nathan Callaghan and Chris Barrow are also expected to benefit from the extra laps around Bunbury, with all three drivers continuing to build experience behind the wheel in a competitive Late Model environment.
Adding even more intrigue to the field are former regular competitors Craig Greentree and Bryn Haythornthwaite, both returning to the cockpit after time away. Their experience should make them drivers to watch as they reacquaint themselves with race conditions.
One of the headline stories entering the weekend is the inclusion of Pro Dirt Series regular Luke Halliday. Halliday will use the event as an R&D session and is set to start from the rear of the field as the team works through new ideas and setups throughout the day.
Also making his first appearance in the category is Blake Simpson, who will begin from the back while getting a feel for the car and adapting to the unique challenges of Late Model racing.
With a strong blend of experienced names, returning racers and newcomers all looking for valuable track time, the Winter Development Series opener promises an entertaining afternoon of racing and an important first step toward the 2026/27 season.
Racing begins from 12pm Saturday at Bunbury Speedway.

By the Stats!
With the official 2025/26 LMRWA season coming to a close on the weekend with the Red Dirt Rumble at the Kalgoorlie Speedway, and with the annual Awards Night coming up in a couple of weeks, now is the time to reflect on some of the statistics that made this season so huge.
With plenty of big events throughout the season, including the first ever 100 lap race, 2025/26 was another huge one, with 52 drivers hitting the track at some point during the year and 40 of those drivers taking part in at least one round of the thirteen round Pro Dirt Series.
Make yourself a cup of tea, sit back and relax and we look through the final piece of the 2025/26 season puzzle, where we saw an average of 21 cars on track at each event across the season.
There were 21 nights of racing announced on the season calendar, which equaled 23 feature races being decided across the season!

WHAT A SEASON!
The 2025/26 Pro Dirt Series delivered one of its most competitive and entertaining seasons to date, featuring a blend of dominant performances, breakthrough victories, and dramatic late-race finishes across Western Australia. From season-opening success at Ellenbrook Speedway through to the historic 100-lap Nationals and rounds at Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany and the Perth Motorplex, the campaign showcased the depth of talent within the field, with multiple champions, first-time winners and veteran performers all contributing to a season packed with storylines.
Jamie Oldfield opened the 2025/26 Pro Dirt Series season in dominant fashion at Ellenbrook Speedway, winning both heats before converting pole position into victory in the Ray Tulk Memorial and Round One feature after a hard-fought 30-lapper marked by multiple cautions and lead changes. Warren Oldfield struck back at Perth Motorplex in Round Two, taking the Powerpalooza X win from Jamie Oldfield and Joe Chalmers after a composed drive at the front, before backing it up in Round Three with another controlled victory over Chalmers and Brent Vosbergen to establish early-season momentum.
Brent Vosbergen then added his name to the winners’ list in Round Four, claiming the John Day Classic at the Perth Motorplex after consistently managing a chaotic 30-lap feature to defeat Joe Chalmers and Michael Holmes, while Round Five saw Kye Blight return in style at Boxing Night, sweeping heats and leading much of the feature to beat Jamie Oldfield and Holmes. Round Six delivered a historic Oldfield family podium at the Motorplex, with Jamie Oldfield winning ahead of Warren and Beau Oldfield after a race defined by strategy, traffic, and multiple cautions.
Blight continued his strong form in Round Seven at Albany Speedway, overcoming early pressure from Warren Oldfield before taking control of a caution-heavy feature to defeat Chalmers and Holmes, then followed it up in Round Eight at the Perth Motorplex with another dominant flag-to-flag performance, beating Beau Oldfield and Chalmers. Warren Oldfield returned to victory lane in Round Nine at Bunbury Speedway, charging from mid-pack to defeat Jamie and Beau Oldfield in the Allan Blake Classic after taking control mid-race and managing restarts expertly.
Round Ten produced a breakthrough moment as Abbey Pickering made history at the Perth Motorplex, becoming the first female Pro Dirt Series feature winner after a late-race pass on Luke Halliday to secure a landmark victory over Chalmers and Halliday. Round Eleven saw another strong Oldfield performance at Esperance Speedway, with Warren dominant from pole to claim his first Pro Dirt Series round win at the venue ahead of Beau Oldfield and Chalmers after controlling a heavily interrupted feature.
Beau Oldfield broke through for his maiden Pro Dirt Series win in Round Twelve at Kalgoorlie Speedway, holding off Rod Musarra and a charging Warren Oldfield in a tightly contested 30-lap feature shaped by traffic and late pressure. The WA Title weekend at the Perth Motorplex featured preliminary night success for American visitor Shane Clanton and Jamie Oldfield, but it was Kye Blight who ultimately claimed his third WA Late Model Title with a composed, high-pressure feature win over Musarra and Warren Oldfield.
Clanton responded strongly in the mid-season stretch by winning the Michael Holmes Racing Hump Day Hustle at the Motorplex, leading much of the 30-lap feature to defeat Chalmers and Knowles after a race of constant traffic battles. The season then shifted into history-making territory with the first-ever 100-lap Late Model Nationals, where Warren Oldfield triumphed in a dramatic finish over Nicastri and Clanton after a long, attrition-filled endurance race.
Warren Oldfield capped off a dominant 2025/26 Pro Dirt Series season with victory in the final round at the Perth Motorplex, but it was Joe Chalmers who ultimately secured both the series championship and the track title through consistent podium finishes. Oldfield started on the front row and held strong in a race repeatedly interrupted by cautions, while Chalmers steadily worked his way forward to apply late pressure in the closing stages. In the end, Warren proved too strong to be caught over the final laps, taking the win ahead of Chalmers and Beau Oldfield, while Chalmers’ consistent season results sealed the overall championship crown.
Blight then produced complete dominance across the Easter Spectacular at Albany Speedway, sweeping both nights with unbeaten heats and feature wins over Holmes, Peter Walker and Jay Bassanelli to reinforce his season-long form. Warren Oldfield closed out his standout campaign with victory in the Red Dirt Rumble at Kalgoorlie Speedway, edging Jamie Oldfield and Joe Chalmers in a tight family-heavy finish after another controlled drive through traffic.
Overall, the season will be remembered for its shared dominance between several standout performers, with Warren Oldfield, Kye Blight, and emerging winners like Beau Oldfield and Abbey Pickering all leaving a significant mark. From tight championship battles to landmark victories and historic events, the 2025/26 Pro Dirt Series delivered a full spectrum of racing drama, setting a strong foundation for another highly anticipated season ahead. This would bring the season to a close, so stay tuned for a full stats release before we get our annual awards night underway in a couple of weeks!

Waz Grabs Another!
Warren Oldfield doesn’t have too many races he hasn’t won in Late Models, but last night he ticked another off the list when he won the Red Dirt Rumble at Kalgoorlie Speedway.
He would go fastest in qualifying, record a win and a second place in his heats, then win the pole shuffle to start from pole position in the twenty-five lap final.
Electing to start on the outside saw brother Jamie Oldfield take up the pole position, but Warren would still take advantage to take the lead through the opening turns with Mat Robbins slotting into third behind the Oldfield’s.
Unfortunately the race was quickly under yellow flag conditions, Abbey Pickering finding herself facing the wrong way in turn one and setting up a complete restart.
Attempt two saw Jamie holding the lead down the bottom but Warren would plant the car on the outside line and drive around him to take the lead, with defending winner Joe Chalmers chasing hard ahead of Robbins.
Warren was able to get out to a few cars lengths lead, and as the laps wound down Warren and Jamie would build the gap on Chalmers and Robbins.
Lapped traffic was just about to come into play when the yellows came on for contact between Damian Hudson and Jack Barnewall, rookie Barnewall in his first ever Late Model feature race having raced up to seventh. He restarted from the back and despite some huge moves on the restart, he would collect the wall and head to the infield.
Back on track Warren would lead away and despite Chalmers doing his best to get by Jamie in the opening turns, Jamie was able to pull away. Jamie continued his momentum and closed in on Warren, poking the nose underneath Warren but unable to get by.
Again lapped traffic began to play its part Jamie momentarily putting the nose in front before being baulked and allowing Warren back through. This gave Chalmers the chance to get in on the battle, but the order would remain unchanged as the trio wound their way through.
With eight to go the lead cars had open air, but just four laps later there was a pack of five cars ahead of them. In the run to the chequers Warren, Jamie and Joe were flying through the traffic, constantly pressuring each other in every turn for position, but in the end the positions would remain unchanged, Warren Oldfield crossing the line just 0.4 seconds ahead of Jamie Oldfield, in what was his ninth feature race of the season, with Joe Chalmers third.
This brings the final event for the LMRWA season to a close, with just the annual awards night remaining, so stay tuned for all those details.
