Day 2 and my last project I'm going to share with you this time around!
The Claremont Killings Intro... Oh my lord, this was a big experience for me, I had to figure out how to build a 30-second intro from the ground up and I was the only designer on this project so my work set the tone for the rest of the documentary's animated elements. But once I heard the music, and had a rough narrative for the order of the intro, it all started to come together and I could break down the intro into smaller projects that I had to blend together.
So once I had the groundwork figured out, this amazing, gritty, and chaotic intro piece started to unfurl before my eyes and I couldn't be happier with the results. Sure there are things I would change, but a project like this with so many elements blending together is a huge undertaking, and I've come to be really proud of this piece as a sort of testament to my ability to adapt and move forward.

Next up for Day 1 - Campaigns and Branding!
This is something that I have been actively trying to work on and maintain over the last few years and these are 2 of my favorite examples!
So example number one is the Dragon Warchest logo re-design, which was a fun experiment in font selection that would make the overall design still feel modern, but still, keep its fantasy edge. So with some font adjustments and some more drastic and spiky serifs, I ended up with something that I was really happy with, it screams "fantasy" but looks great on a modern clean website.
And onto example number two! The suites promos I made for my buddy (and the other director of monkbot) for his Divine Relics playing card release. I had a lot of fun doing this project and capturing the Ethereal and Divine vibe of Jon's designs. for me, this meant lots of floating elements and specks of divine light emanating from my animated elements.
Alright! Day 1 of Simon's work
So first up I wanted to share a couple of my favorite bits of work that aren't infographics.
First up is "Vinyl and Whisky" - This project was a real playground for me, working with texturing in Blender and Substance, Prioritising the Texture work over Mesh Complexity, and also trying to capture the peace of sipping on an old-fashioned while listening to vinyl through the soft lighting and meditative pulsing of the vinyl reflection.

First up in the spotlight is me! The guy writing this right now
My name is Simon and I've been working in motion design for about a decade now, Starting out as a freelancer making fan cams and mini-games for the big screens at stadiums, before moving into the newsroom designing infographics and animations, for the nightly bulletin at Channel 9 in Perth where I am now the Head of the Graphics Department.
As a designer I love a challenge, seeing something new and exciting and figuring it out is one of the main things that keeps me going. As such I've done a lot of work in a lot of different formats, and over the next 2 days, I'm going to share some of that with you!
and if you've read this far, I must give a big thank you to Arya my cat for rolling around on the floor behind me while I work to keep me motivated (distracted)
