Update.

Hi everyone, just dropping in to say hi 👋 it’s been a minute.

As many of you know, it’s been a bit of a ride in my personal life the past 12 months and due to the needs of my family, cakes had to take a back seat until the dust settled and the ground stopped shaking.

But, we are now doing ok. I finally got to ‘properly’ marry my beautiful wife on the weekend, this time, surrounded by all our extended loved ones in a bubble of love and joy.

Things are a little different for me now, cake-wise. Life sometimes makes you refocus and shift. I am still taking orders, just not the volume I used to do.

Over winter I’ll have some new sample packs available for those interested in future bookings. Stay tuned.

Sitting pretty last year

For many of you, you’ll know it’s been a really hard 12 months for my family. I had to take a step back from cakes and focus on what’s most important…the special loved ones in our life.

Time with our loved ones is so precious and I am so glad that slowing down gave me time to be with those that mattered when they needed me. And I’m grateful to my cake community who stepped in and offered their help and a big thanks to for taking over for me when I just couldn’t manage.

Cakes were still happening, just not so many and not so frequently. Cakes will always be something I love and something I will continue with, but they’ll be a little less frequent from now on.

5, 4, 3, 2 or 1?

When designing your cake there are three main factors to consider when choosing size.

1. The number of guests you have. You want to ensure your cake is large enough to feed your guests.

2. Is the cake for coffee (later in the night) or dessert? If you’re serving the cake as dessert you need to ensure you cater for every guest, just like you would an entree or main. If you have other desserts you can aim for around 70% of guests to eat cake.

3. The aesthetic. It’s important your cake looks proportionate to your venue and number of guests. Just as a 5 tier would look OTT for 50 guests, a single tier would look underwhelming for 200.
