Midlife and wondering what’s ahead?
Are you a a woman in midlife and you’ve lost your confidence?
You’re not alone…
Once I hit my mid forties and fifties, I became less and less confident in my abilities. Physically, my body and hormones were changing and mentally my brain felt fuzzy and self doubt started to creep in.
This is a common phase that we go through as women when we start to feel the effects of menopause. We second guess ourselves, we find it harder to make decisions and we feel that society no longer values us as it had in the past.
Yet, since my fifties, I’ve had some of the best jobs in my life. I’ve had autonomy in my roles, had opportunities and experiences to travel around Australia and worked with people in ways I’d only ever dreamed of before.
Believe me, this is the time in our lives when we know ourselves better than ever before, we have accumulated a wealth of experience and wisdom and we CAN make a difference.
We can draw on that inner confidence and strength that we each have within us to achieve whatever we want to achieve.
Work out what you want for the next phase of your life. Take control of the things that matter to you now.
Don’t wait. Take action today.

I’ve been stepping back for a while.
Thinking about the direction I’m heading in.
Sometimes we need to look at our lives from a different perspective.
Time and space to contemplate what’s important.
Are you ready for a change?
How will you know which way to go?
What’s important to YOU right now?

Lean Into Successful Leadership
Why Lean In?
Our perceptions of a successful leader may vary and you may not feel equipped to do the job.
Think about the times you have created and shared a vision with others and then led those people to reach a common goal. What came easily to you? What was challenging?
Cheryl worked hard to progress in her career and she was well liked and respected by her colleagues. And yet she was hesitant to apply for any leadership opportunities because she felt she didn’t have all the answers or may not be able to solve all the problems.
What Cheryl didn’t realise was that she was great at building trust and positive relationships. She was competent at her job as well as bringing out the best in others. She had the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people so that everyone felt valued and worked hard to achieve the goals of the organisation.
A good leader doesn’t always have all the answers and may not have the solution to every problem, but they empower others to use their initiative and be accountable for resolving their own problems and issues.
If you are a person who thinks leadership is knowing more than anyone else and having the answer to every problem, then you may struggle with the concept of a relational leader who brings out the best in others.
But if you are willing to lean in with curiosity and really get to know your team, you will not only be able to bring out the best in them, you will be a leader who others will remember not for what you did, but for your ability to build trust and mutual respect. You will be known for your ability to cultivate a collaborative and motivated team who feel genuinely valued and appreciated.
Comment “lean in” if you’re ready to take some action.

What if you knew you couldn’t fail?
What if you knew every decision you made was the right one?
What if you had the answer to every question and every problem?
In truth, no one ever knows any of these things. So why are you comparing yourself to others who you think are better than you?
What you do know is you have the wisdom and experience that others don’t have. You are resourceful in resolving challenges and accomplished in what you do. And that counts for a lot.
Don’t wait until you have all the answers. Just go for it.

The research tells us that the majority of women retire with little or no superannuation.
* Women have significantly less money saved for their retirement – half of all women aged 45 to 59 have $8,000 or less in their superannuation funds, compared to $31,000 for men.
* Currently, the average superannuation payout for women is a third of the payout for men - $37,000 compared with $110, 000
* In Australia, women working full-time today earn 16 per cent less than men

Are you guilty of ageism?
Ageism against yourself?
Do you believe you will be less valued because of your wrinkles, or your grey hair or body shape?
And add to that the fact you are a woman?
Maybe it’s time to change your thinking.
If you want to apply for that leadership position, now is the time. You deserve the extra income and recognition.
Did you know that most women who excel in their careers do so after turning 50? It’s a pity most people don’t realise this.

When I was new to leadership, I never really knew the best way to communicate with everyone I was leading. I found some relationships easy to build, but there were a number of people who I avoided, because I felt they were negative or against me and I didn’t have the tools and skills to build those connections with them.
I wish I knew then about the power of having a structure for my conversations that could give the other person an opportunity to take responsibility for their actions in a positive way and bring out the best in them.
Since then I have developed a framework called: “Wisdom Conversations”, to help you transform your conversation techniques. With years of experience in coaching and facilitating leadership development, I’ve created an evidence based framework that you can learn to use right away.
Once you learn to use this framework for your conversations, which is easy to adapt, you will want to have those conversations because you will see the positive impact you can make. No more avoiding the challenging conversations.

Sometimes change can be difficult. At first we can feel excitement and elation. Then we start to second guess ourselves and can be fearful of taking the next step. The important thing to remember is that the ups and downs of our emotions throughout the change process is a common pattern until we assimilate the change into our way of thinking.
Technology for example, is one area of change that can have a huge impact on to on the way people feel about the job they are doing. Sometimes it can make them feel incompetent which is difficult to cope with.
Are you going through a major change or have you experienced these ups and downs of emotions recently? Or are you leading a team where change is disrupting the way things are normally done?
Discuss the challenges through meaningful conversations.
I have developed a framework that will help you to have these conversations. This is based on the years I’ve spent years helping others to develop a positive communication strategy to manage challenging situations. If you’d like to find out more, write “framework” in the comments or get in touch with me.
