NATIONAL THREATENED SPECIES DAY |

The FVC team marked National Threatened Species Day this year with a friendly bake off, transforming threatened species into incredible cake creations. This was our participation in the Threatened Species Bake-Off!

Every entry was impressive, but one masterpiece truly stole the show - Merlin, a Mertens' Water Monitor, created by the amazing Sarah. After an extraordinary 30 hours of dedication, Sarah brought Merlin to life in cake form 🦎

About National Threatened Species Day - On 7 September each year, many people stop and reflect on the fact that on that same date in 1936, Australia’s Tasmanian tiger, also known as the thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus), slipped over the extinction line.

60 years later in 1996, the Threatened Species Network founded by WWF-Australia and the Australian Government’s Natural Heritage Trust established National Threatened Species Day to commemorate the death of the last Tasmanian tiger at Hobart Zoo.

The golden blooms of wattle are a sure sign that spring has arrived. 🌿💛

Happy National Wattle Day for yesterday to all who appreciate the beauty of Australia’s native flora.

1ST DAY OF SPRING |

Spring has arrived, bringing WA’s landscapes to life with vibrant wildflowers and flourishing wildlife. As nature awakens, so too does one of the busiest times of the year for the FVC Team.

Our team of specialist ecologists and biologists is preparing for a busy season of field surveys across WA’s diverse bioregions. We’re looking forward to returning to the field, helping to understand, conserve, and protect the unique ecosystems that make this state so remarkable.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY |

A couple of weeks ago, the FVC team came together at Emily Taylor to celebrate Christmas in July and acknowledge the hard work and achievements of the year so far.

We exchanged Secret Santa gifts and enjoyed festive drinks and a delicious lunch together. A big thank you to the staff at Emily Taylor for being so accommodating and for their exceptional service.

It was a great opportunity to reflect on the year so far, reconnect as a team, and enjoy some well-earned time together before the next busy season begins.

A special congratulations to Lisa, who was voted our Best Dressed winner for her wonderfully Christmas-themed outfit! 🎄✨

NATIONAL TREE DAY |

This year marks 30 Years of National Tree Day 🌿

Since its inception in 1996, Planet Ark’s National Tree Day has grown into Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature care event. More than just a day, it’s a nationwide movement that inspires Australians to get their hands dirty, connect with nature, and make a positive difference in their local communities.

Over the past three decades, volunteers have contributed more than 10 million hours to planting trees, restoring habitat, and taking part in environmental activities that foster a deeper understanding of the natural world.

At FVC, we’re committed to protecting and restoring the natural environment that sustains us all. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

This National Tree Day, help us to support actions that make a lasting difference one tree, one habitat, one community at a time 🌱

EMPLOYEE OF THE SEASON |

A huge congratulations to Rachel on being nominated for Employee of the Season for Autumn 👏

Rachel was recognised for not only her hard work, attention to detail but also her exceptional support, patience, and dedication when helping resolve a challenging issue another colleague was having with some software.

Rachel spent time helping work through the problem and kept suggesting different things to try when nothing seemed to be working. Even after a number of failed attempts, she stayed patient and continued helping until they finally got it sorted.

It was so appreciated how supportive and approachable she was throughout the process. It turned a frustrating tech issue into something they could work through together, remotely.

Her willingness to help and stick with the problem made a big difference.
