Another tough day in the jurisdiction ‘I call home’.

There is a real lack of appreciation and sometimes entitlement for the lawyers that do Legal Aid work.

The pay is poor for the work, effort and commitment we put in. Often working 12 plus hours a day, 7 days a week. Clients offen think we do not have lives outside of being a Legal Aid lawyer.

But just occasionally, I have beautiful messages from parents and clients that appreciate the work I do.

‘We were so blessed to have you as ______lawyer . Thank you 🤩’

After working over the festive season, i am taking some leave. I will not be working from 27 January to 5 February 2025. I will not be responding to emails during this time or available for court appearances. Please contact the Legal Aid Duty Lawyer if urgent.

Lovely text- thank you- in the midst of my ‘never ending illness’ of late. Yes I did attend court today and did feel sick. But I love my work and love helping young people in the hope they don’t reach the adult criminal justice system.
