Stop judging dog owners🛑

Not every matted dog comes from neglect.
Not every “bad coat” means a bad owner.
And not every grooming issue is caused by a lack of love.

Some owners are new.
Some were given incorrect advice.
Some were told “this breed doesn’t need grooming.”
Some are doing their best while juggling work, kids, health, finances, or life in general.

As groomers, we see the coat — but we don’t always see the full story behind it.

Judgement doesn’t educate.
Shame doesn’t improve welfare.
And assumptions don’t help dogs.

What does help is honest conversations, clear guidance, and realistic grooming plans. Explaining coat types, maintenance schedules, brushing techniques, and what can (and can’t) be fixed in one appointment. Supporting owners instead of making them feel embarrassed to ask questions or come back.

A dog with a well-maintained coat usually has one thing in common:
an owner who feels informed, supported, and confident — not judged.

Our role isn’t just to groom dogs.
It’s to educate, guide, and advocate for their wellbeing.

The term “hypoallergenic” is often misunderstood — and in many cases, it’s misleading.

🚫 No dog is 100% hypoallergenic
All dogs produce allergens. These allergens come from:
• Dander (dead skin cells)
• Saliva
• Oils on the skin

Not from the hair itself.

🐩 So why are some breeds called hypoallergenic?
Breeds like Poodles, Oodles, Bichons and some Terriers tend to:
• Shed less
• Hold onto dead hair instead of dropping it
• Produce fewer airborne allergens

This can be more manageable for some allergy sufferers — but it is NOT allergy-free.

🛁 Grooming plays a huge role
Regular grooming helps by:
✔️ Removing dander buildup
✔️ Keeping skin clean and healthy
✔️ Reducing allergens in the home

A poorly maintained “hypoallergenic” dog can actually trigger MORE reactions than a well-groomed shedding breed.

Education matters.
Instead of chasing labels, focus on proper coat care and realistic expectations. 🤍

Smooth and short-coated dogs may look “easy”, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need proper grooming. 🐶✨

Breeds like Staffies, Boxers, Dobermans, Pointers, French Bulldogs and many mixed breeds fall into this category.

🧴 They still shed
Short hair doesn’t mean no shedding. Dead hair builds up in the coat and on the skin, which can cause itchiness, dull coats and excess hair around the house.

🛁 Baths matter
Regular bathing removes dirt, oil build-up and loose coat. Skipping baths often leads to smelly coats and skin issues.

🪮 Brushing is still important
Using the right tools helps:
• Remove dead hair
• Stimulate healthy skin
• Improve coat shine

✂️ No haircuts needed — but maintenance is key
These coats don’t need trimming, but they DO need:
✔️ Deshedding tools
✔️ Proper drying
✔️ Skin-safe products

Healthy skin = healthy coat.
Grooming isn’t about hair length — it’s about care. 🤍

Double-coated dogs are NOT just “hairy dogs” — they have a purpose-built coat that protects them all year round. 🐶❄️☀️

Breeds like Huskies, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Samoyeds, Border Collies and many more have two layers:
• A soft undercoat for insulation
• A top coat that protects from heat, cold, sun and moisture

🚫 Shaving a double-coated dog is usually a big NO
When you shave these dogs, the coat often does not grow back properly. This can cause:
• Patchy or uneven regrowth
• Permanent coat damage
• Overheating (yes, shaving can make them hotter)
• Skin exposure and sunburn

✨ So what do they really need?
✔️ Proper deshedding
✔️ High-velocity drying to remove dead undercoat
✔️ Correct brushing techniques
✔️ Regular maintenance, not drastic haircuts

A well-maintained double coat actually helps regulate body temperature and keeps your dog comfortable in all seasons. 🌿

As groomers, our job isn’t just to make dogs look good — it’s to protect their health and coat integrity. And as owners, trusting the process makes all the difference.
