À Deux - more than a concert.

This program goes back to where a2. orchestra began, not as an ensemble, but as two people making music together and wanting to build something more.

“À Deux” means for two, and that idea sits at the center of everything in this concert: sharing the stage, sharing ideas, and revisiting the musical starting point that has shaped the orchestra over the past five years.

It’s built around the rare combination of oboe, double bass, and piano, but the focus is broader than that. It’s about how an idea between two people can grow into something much bigger.

Built around the rare pairing of oboe and double bass, with piano accompaniment, this program explores a corner of the classical music that’s rarely heard.

Alongside works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Bach, Bottesini, and Britten, the duo will present a specially commissioned world premiere by Marcell Howell and the Australian premiere of Goplerud’s “Schubert’s Trout Served Four Ways.”

The concert highlights the duo’s long-standing collaboration, both on and off the stage, offering a glimpse into their musical and personal partnership that sparked the creation of a2. Treat yourself to a delightful afternoon of music and see the musicians at the heart of a2. collaborate for a celebration of music.
