Just a brief clip that vaguely outlines what we looked at during the seminar at .wa 🎥

We basically outlined energy (and what is considered energy as far as our body is concerned) and we followed that up with well what does it look like when we approach that in 2 very different circumstances and how might that change our ability to lose weight (primarily fat).

Jamie came to me at 130kg having lost 45kg from his biggest at 175kg and we have managed to get him down to 90kg and greatly improve his muscle mass.

I attribute Jamie’s success largely to his consistency and hard work 🙌

Tempo?

One that I think a lot more people need to pay attention to purely just to make sure they avoid injury and take care of their joints a little better ✅

It’s not a one size fits all rule but GENERALLY it’s best to focus on control and keeping tension in the right areas.

Struggling to put more weight on your bench press or even just any exercise?

At some point we need to remember that doing 3x10 until we can’t is a quick way to get stuck 😖

This method is by no means new and those that participate in strength sports use variations of this a lot. But does that mean those of us who just like to train in general can’t use it? Of course not!

Let’s say you’re doing 3x10 on an exercise at 10kg and cannot get past that weight if you try to get another 10 reps.

Could we not aim for say 5-8 reps on the first set and then return to 10 reps for our following 2 sets? Absolutely. You may even find this helps you get through those following sets even easier.

The following week you can add 1 rep to that first set and continue progressing.

Don’t limit yourself based on generic rules and use methods to keep progressing!

Single Leg Exercises aren’t all created equal but what makes them different?

Well the main thing would be stability.

Being unstable isn’t a bad thing but it can sometimes stop use from progressing which ultimately does prevent us from reaching our goals and it can also at times increase the risk of injury which we definitely don’t want.

Don’t like tracking food?

Look sometimes I don’t either. But it can make things difficult when you’re trying to lose weight (more specifically fat) but I will say when maintaining, it’s actually quite easy.

If you focus on eating foods high in protein, there’s room for movement with other macros like fats and carbohydrates. I’d argue that most people even when trying to reach a goal should go through periods of time where they focus on just eating a balanced diet.

No one wants to track forever and I’m a big fan of it.

If you don’t want to track but want to avoid gaining weight then my advice is to look at food as a source of nutrition and not something you can just binge endlessly. Have a portion of something and then move on.

Packets of chips on the couch are cool. A serving of a packet of chips on the couch is the same thing.

The goal should always be to consume 90% the right stuff, you’ll then be surprised what you can get away with when having the 10% 🤝

Don’t understand how to use the Hack Squat?

Here are some quick pointers to focus on performing the exercise correctly.

Keep your back against the pad provided for support ✅
Keep your feet flat and push through your heels and the middle of your foot + make sure they aren’t too far back ✅
Control the movement through a range of motion that is comfortable for you ✅
