Dental Fact!

For a dental practice to grow, systems and monitoring are integral to that growth! 🧡🔐🦷📈

I had the pleasure of speaking at the Rotary Club of Pinnjarra recently and sharing some of the core foundations I work on with dental and specialist practices.

Although the talk was based around dentistry, the conversation afterwards showed just how relevant these principles are across many types of businesses.

I spoke about three key pillars:
- patient experience
- team dynamics
- clinical excellence

When those three areas are supported by clear systems and surrounded by strong values, they help create consistency, not just for patients, but for teams and the business as a whole.

It was lovely to have so many people come up afterwards to say thank you and share that the framework made sense for their own businesses, too.

A good reminder that no matter the industry, strong foundations matter.

Thank you to Rotary for having me. I was pleased to be able to contribute in a small way to the community.

General dentists and dental specialists, do not have time to read copious amounts of writing.

Marketing will not fix a broken patient journey.

Spending more on ads before your internal systems are working properly can make the gaps more obvious.

In the Simple Ways to Stand Out and Get Found First in Your City webinar, Michelle spoke about when marketing should begin in the practice growth timeline.

Before a dental or dental specialist practice invests more into marketing, it is worth asking:

Is the patient journey consistent?

From the first phone call through to treatment presentation, follow-up and recall, patients need to feel supported and clear about what happens next.

Are your systems supporting your clinical excellence?

High-quality dentistry needs strong processes behind it. Your team needs to know what should happen, who owns each step and how patients should be guided through the practice.

Is your team aligned?

Marketing will amplify what is already happening inside the business. If the patient experience is inconsistent, more enquiries may simply expose the gaps.

When your systems are clear, your team is aligned and your patient journey is consistent, marketing can support growth with far more confidence.

The practices that stand out are not just the ones with good marketing.

They are the ones that build the foundation first, then grow with intention.

Many Human Resource and Industrial Relation issues in practices start with poor onboarding.

If new staff:
- Aren’t clear on expectations
- Don’t understand your values
- Are left to “figure it out”

…you increase the risk of conflict, stress and turnover.

This week, review your induction:
“Do we have a clear plan for a new employee’s first month – or just a tour and a login?”

🎧 New episode just dropped!

This week on Dental Success: Beyond Chairside, Michelle chats with Dr Sugz Mahalingam about the one thing every practice depends on, patient trust.

Dr Sugz explains why patients may not remember every detail of their appointment, but they will remember how they felt. When patients feel confused, rushed, or “railroaded” into a recommendation, trust drops and decisions stall.

You’ll hear practical ways to improve communication straight away, including:

Using open-ended questions to uncover what the patient actually wants

A clear way to explain consequences of inaction (problem–agitate–solution)

Why focusing on one big idea helps patients make confident decisions

This episode covers:

Why patients remember how they felt more than what was said

How to uncover the real driver behind treatment using open-ended questions
